The cares of life all fell away,' The world became a better place. A 'vision shone like break of day- A symbol of a greater race. I saw a people strong and tall, Whose step was firm and unafraid, Whose mighty strength, a tofw'ring wall, On a foundation of faith was laid. The fields were green, the crops stood high,' The factories sang a rhapsodyj The buildings stood tall against the sky In a land that was holy and pure and free. Some human frailties were there,' But meanness, greed, and hate were gone. An aura of happiness hung in the air, As children's 'voices rose in song. I stretched forth my hands in keen delight, As if to grasp that lofvelinessj But like a wraith it faded from sight, And I stood again in loneliness. I had returned to a world of war,' And yet a hope remained in me, A knowledge that the day was not far, When peace should come with victory. -SUE WILSON 5 Elk. L..

' une Class Poem VICTORY The V that stands for Victory Is like a shining light, In the greatest war of history, For freedom and for right. It guides our boys over there, On land and on the sea,' Our pilots flying through the air, And even you and me. Although we do not march in ranks, hVe've vital work to do, By making planes and ships and tanks And ammunition, too. For win this war, we really must, Or slaves we'll always be,' No rights, no freedom for the just, No home, no liberty. America! The land we love! We'll fight to keep you free,' And with the help of God above, We're sure of Victory! s The schoolroom is a battle-field Where war goes on by day,' We keep old Ignorance in retreat, While Knowledge holds full sway. The soldiers are the boys and girls, Who make the daily raids,' Use text books for their weapons, Their ammunition, Grades. Now that our graduation's nigh, We sing and shout with glee,' For here within dear Waco High, We've won our victory! -GERALDINE SPWEY X' . ..,..qhf-- ...L 5 M..
