'FX Liberty Belle Contest H If presentation of lllartha VVood as lVliss Liberty Belle at the Victory Concert in the high school gymnasium on the evening of February I5 climaxed the fourth war loan drive. VVaco High School went over the top with 525,000.00 in stamps and bonds sold during the drive, 52,801.40 of this amount being sold at the concert. Those contesting for the title of Ulvliss Liberty Belle were, from left to right, lllary Gene VVemple, Yvonne Ferguson, Nina Allison, lvlartha Wood, -Ioann Nluckleroy, Grace Hoffman, and Peggy Sue Bryant. Candidates were chosen from each floor of the building. The committee consisted of lylartha VVood, general chairman, VValter Dossett, Dan Richard Dudley, Shirley llflabray, Lewis VVilliams. and Lorraine Abel. The Waco High School lVIusic Department with the lyiixed Chorus and the Senior Band per- forming gave a group of patriotic numbers. Jim Bob Healer as master of ceremonies introduced two soldiers from McCloskey' Hospital who spoke on their war experiences. Stamps and bonds were sold before the concert began. Two money prizes were given by The Wacoan to the club having the largest number in attendance and the one selling the most bonds and stamps that evening. The presentation of llfliss Liberty Belle and the losing contestants in the race concluded the program.
