Within its pages, years from now, you will rediscover classmates only dimly remebered; events that, in their time, were highlights of your life; and a picture here and there will cause you to remember a whole panorama of happenings. Yes, memories are precious reminders of our past, of good times, of struggles endured and won, and of goals we set for some future time. Memories are important to us because they allow us to lay out the fabric of our lives in a discernible pattern. But let us not forget that memories are but a long-range mitror of our day to day existence and that the qualities of these memories will be determined by how we lived each day. My central message to you is expressed beautifully in the following passage from the Sanskrit : Look to this day ! For it is life, the very life of life. In its brief course lie all the verities and realities of your existence The Bliss of growth; the Glory of action; The Splendor of beauty; For yesterday is already a dream, and tomorrow is only a vision; But today, well lived, makes every yesterday a dream of happiness. And every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well, therefore, to this day ! My hope for you is that you look to each day for its challenges and its rewards so that your tomorrows can look at their yesterdays with pride and happiness.
