Yearbook Message from the Superintendent of Schools 1976 A year ago, a GAZETTE editorial entitled High School Consumers Speak” described students and recent graduates of two area high schools publicly reg¬ istering constmctive criticism of their schools. I should like to ask you to do the same. Our guidance office will ask your evaluation of your high school preparation one year and five years from now. But you don ' t have to wait for their questionnaire! Your comments in this case won ' t help you personally, but they will help those students who follow you, as post graduates’ comments have helped us improve things for you. Looking farther afield, we urge you to make your reactions known by means of CONSTRUCTIVE criticism - courteously, diplomatically, but candidly - to ANY organization which provides a service to you either as a public agency or for a price. Doing your share involves not only helping provide services, but also helping those who decide WHAT services to provide and HOW. Many of us do listen! Consumerism can be a positive force as well as a negative one. We wish you happiness, the sleep which follows honest labor, the satisfaction of having created something of quality, and the peace which comes from within. MR. ADMINISTRATION Very truly yours, Harold M. Lane, Jr. Director of Secondary Education and Principal Your graduation from Wachusett Regional High School will coincide within a month to the two-hundredth anniversary of your country ' s birth. And, not unlike that decla¬ ration of independence of two centuries ago, you, too, will be setting out over unc¬ hartered ground - full of hope, idealism, and faith in your own potential for growth. And like that fledgling nation, you will be judged, not by a single event, but by the sum total of the quality of the years that will follow. And yet, we too often lose sight of the years previous to our own •personal declaration of independence - the years of growth, of learning, and of testing the limits of our own potential. Hope¬ fully, you will be able someday to look back beyond the milestone of your gradua¬ tion day and find fond memories of your years spent at Wachusett. For no declaration of independence can really be made to stand without a background of supportive teaching and leadership be it by parents, teachers, or friends. It is my sincere hope that these years spent at Wachusett have broadened your hori¬ zons , expanded your vision of the world around you, and provided a solid base for the declaration you are making with the presentation of your high school diploma.
