Many members of the Class of ’72 have spoken frequently about needed change and about involvement in effecting change. Effecting any significant change in the society involves people — people organized and working together. And people working together require leadership and followership. Many of you have shown leadership skills. Those of you who have had an opportunity to lead, who have accepted responsibility, who have had those you were leading support you, vie with you, or drop out of your team because they wanted to be leader or nothing — you have probably learned to become better followers when you are a member of someone else’s team. No one is skilled in all things — no one will be the leader in all situations. Inherited royalty is dead. At times, each of us must realize that we are the most knowledgeable member of the group for this particular task, and we must step to the fore. The rest of the time, each of us must promote and support the other person who is best qualified to lead us in our task, and we must then be a conscientious follower. Neal T. Skillings Principal Challenging times lie ahead for you upon your graduation from Wachusett. Whether or not you can successfully meet these challenges depends largely on how well prepared you are to face the future. Wachusett has offered you some of the finest opportunities for learning to be found in any school in the East, perhaps in the whole country. If you have taken full advantage of th ese opportunities you should have no fear of what lies ahead for you. You are well prepared for whatever you may encounter.
