Although many stu- dents like to think that school is a time to be with their friends, it’s also a time to get down to business and learn something. There are a variety of subjects to choose from, rangeing from biology to basic busi- ness, allgebra to farming. Students are rewarded for their efforts by getting on the honor roll at the end of a quarter. But, school isn't all books, and if you turn to the next page you’ll see what else school is about. Pictured Top: Mr Berg explains the finer parts of the mouse to some tenth grade girls, during biology class. Middle left: Terry Jenniges cuts the pie while Scott Martin, Joe Kemp, and Scott Fennern wait in anticipation. They see us at our worst and our best. They help us get through times when we think the world will end. Friends defend us in times of crisis and help lift us up when we're down. Friends do those little things that mean a lot. They’re great to have, and we couldn’t live without them. Pictured. Top: The Three Stooges. Paul Honetschlager. Teachers plant seeds of interest and in- trigue in the young minds of their students as they teach them. One student may become interested in science, while another especially likes math, English, social, or art. The teachers help these seeds germinate and grow over the years. Some students go on to be teachers themselves or pur- sue a career which came about because of an interest in a specific subject. The teachers at WHS are great planters of seeds. Mrs. Kiel leaches typing, com- munications, and English. Mr Sagedahl leaches the learning disabled and coaches girls basketball. Mrs. Hindt helps to teach the learn- ing disabled 9 Help Wanted When we need help at school, whether it be for a teacher or ourselves, who do we seek? It’s the workers who can get the pencil sharpener fixed, give us a pass when we’re late to class, or give us cough drops. Among this group who provide human services are the cooks, the bus drivers, the janitors, the nurse, and the secretaries. Pictured Top The bus drivers. Row 1: Mr. R. Bierl. Mr Goblirsch. Not Us There goes someone with rollers in their hair! What's going on here? It’s Spirit Week at Wabasso High School. Monday was “Come As You Are Day , and the students did just that, dressing in robes and wearing rollers in their hair. Tuesday was Vacation Day , and lots of shorts were seen. Wednesday was Senoir Citizen Day”, so you had to be careful in the halls for fear of running down some elderly lady or man. “Formal Day” was held on Thursday, and everyone wore their best clothes. Last, was the traditional Gold and Maroon Day” on Friday. Also on this last day of the week was the Powder Puff Football Game, which was held in late afternoon and at it’s conclusion, declared the Junior-Freshman team the winners. 17 18 'he Chosen A New Queen The air hums with excitement, as a drum roll sounds across the gym. It’s time to crown the 1986-87 Homecoming King and Queen. The 1987 queen becomes Stacy Wahl and the 1987 king becomes Kevin Baune. As they take their reigning walk the WHS Concert Band plays Seperate Lives' . They return to the stage and take their places at the throne. Another coronation has come and gone. Prom 1987 Heaven In Your Eyes This year’s prom was one no one who attended will ever forget. It was held in the gym on May 2, 1987. The grand march began at eight o'clock and was followed by the dance. “Crosswinds” pro- vided the music. At twelve when the dance ended there was an after prom party for those who wished to stay. There were games, a sponge throw, movies, free pizzas and hamburgers at Baune’s, and even more snacks if you were really hungry. The whole night was a lot of fun! 20 Pictured. Memories Memories are what we have left after a year of school is through. The annual staff, along with their photographers, take some of those special moments and record them so they can be remembered time and again. These two groups of people spend many hours a year working on a book that reminds us, when we’re much older and far away, of those times we had in high school. This year the annual staff spent every Monday after school working on the yearbook. We also acquired a new advisor, Mrs. Kallevig. Pictured. Students wearing the la- test fashions. Of course many girls are fashion conscious, but so are the guys. Some of the styles this year included, suspenders for guys and girls, long baggy shirts, Guess jeans, Coke shirts, and shoes of every color. We thought it would be fun to record some of these fashions in pictures. Bottom left Matt Guetter shows us that the ever faithful suit has not gone out of style. It’s just been modified a bit. Hi! I am Eva Ralenkotter, the foreign ex- change student from Rheda Wiedeubruek, Germany. I stayed with the Dick Jones family which was a lot of fun, like most of my year here. I was the manager for the volleyball team and was in the Concert Choir which I enjoyed very much. Declam was a totally new experience for me, which I'll never forget. I have to say that WHS is one of the friendliest places I have ever been. Thanks a lot to everyone. “I am Michael Hansen, a foreign exchange student from Denmark. I really enjoyed being in sports. I was in football, wrestling, and track. My favorite foods were tacos, pizza, and hamburgers. I liked being in Wa- basso because everything is so different and everyone knows everyone. I had a lot of different experiences, such as homecoming, prom, and graduation. I will never forget WHS. Thank You.” 54 Pictured. Top left: Mike Hansen as he is getting his dinner. They reach for learning and winning. This year some of that reaching paid off. They received a first place medal at the state bowling competition. The students learn to play an instrument and make some beautiful music. Both the junior high and high school bands give several con- certs a year. Members of the concert band may participate in Solo and Ensemble Contest in the spring. The junior high band participates in an exchange concert with Lamberton. The students in declam have to decide which area they would like to talk about wheather it be serious prose, comedy, or story telling. They spend many hours learning what they are going to say, and practicing how it should be said. Declam is not just reading oft a speach, expression and drama must be added to make it effective. This year six students participated in declam. Four went on to district contest, and two went on to region contest. Pictured. Top: Sub-District Declam Participants. Boy’s Basketball is the name of this game. Bouncing, dribbling, passing, and shooting are the fundamentals of basketball. Teamwork is also a must. This year’s boys basketball squad had plenty. They worked together to win several games and played well in the ones they lost. The team included five seniors, ranging in height from 6’ 1 to 6’4. Pictured. It’s exciting and it makes everyone proud to say they are on the WHS wrestling sqaud. This year the wrestlers fought to win that title of number one. They won the Tomahawk Conference for the third year in a row, but were beat in district competition. In individuals Terry Jenniges went on to region competition, and then on to state, where he placed fourth. Al- though they didn't get to be number one in the state, they still achieved many goals, and won many matches of which this school is proud. Pictured Top: A Squad Wrestling. Row 1: Korey Rogotzke. Many individuals did very well this year. They did well enough at district to be able to go on to region. Au Revoir, Adios, and Goodbye Saying goodbye is perhaps one of the hardest things to do, and yet we feel glad that we have had these times and shared the fun. This is the end of the book and we would like to close with these few words. No one is ever very far away. If you search long enough you’re bound to run into the special people you grew up with at WHS. Don’t forget, another school year starts again in the fall, and many of your friends will be back to go another round. Have a good summer! Pictured. Here's a tew signs that the year is coming to a close. Top left: Julie Schilling and Tracy Jenniges relax in their sweats. Top right: Miss Hamilton hands Carrie Treml a certificate for her achievement as photography editor. Bot- tom left: Lisa Wall goes to class. Bottom right: Andy Schiller gives us the jr. bird man look. Things get pretty crazy at the end of a school year Thanks I would like to say thanks to all the people who helped with the annual. Thanks to the annualstaff, Mrs. Kal- levig, the photographers, the teach- ers and administration, and the stu- dent body for all your help and coo- peration throughout the year. I hope you enjoy the book. SNIlSOf
