Going to classes seven hours a day. eating school lunches and listening to bells and teachers telling you what to do. is that what it's all about? Well, maybe a small part, the part that everyone complains about, but there is much more to a student’s life. Joking around with friends, getting rowdy in class, extra-curricular activities in and out of school are just a tew things that make the days go by. Special events and other activities add great fun and laughs to help break up the year. School is a very important part of a stu- dents' life even though they don’t realize it. In this section we salute Student Life because without students there wouldn't be much life in school!! 1 The excited bench and crowd at the powder-puff game 2. Sharing a few laughs during Sprit Week. 3. A special dress-up day for Mrs. Wetmore’s class 4 Volleyball and Football players spoon-fed each other at the pepfest. A NIGHT TO REMEMBER Into a streamer-filled gym marched ten nervous king and queen candidates and class attendants. The excited crowd waited as the 1984-85 king and queen Joel Dud- geon and Val Wagner stepped onto the stage. Sue Kramer and Brad Kletscher were MC's for the evening and Mr. Ledermann gave the homecoming address. The band provided background music and the choir sang a selection. The 1984-85 king and queen took their last reigning walk just be- fore the crowning of our new king and queen Sue Taylor and Jack Sagedahl. 1. 1985-86 Homecoming king and queen Sue Taylor and Jack Sagedahl. 2. You would have if you had come to Wabasso's Spirit Week!!! Monday, Inside Out Day started out the week with a variety of funny-looking outfits. The next day was Sweatsuit Day, in which the athletic and not-so-athletic showed their school spirit by wearing sweatsuits. “Come as you are day was a day devoted to those people who have a difficult time getting out of bed in the morning. It looked as if everyone had that problem on Wednesday. Everyone simply got up and came to school. Thursday's Gang Day brought the streetlife to the halls of WHS and Friday wrapped up the week with the ever-famous Maroon and Gold Day. On Tuesday the Student Council planned a tug-of-war won by the sophomore-junior team. Friday was the powder-puff game with the sophomore-junior team again walking away with a close win. And that night was corna- tion when Jack Sagedahl was crowned as King and Sue Taylor as Queen. Friday the football team beat Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 29-25 and topped the night off with a dancfe by KK 100 for all to enjoy. 1. Same to you Dawn. 2. Don’t we look great' 3. Punk Out. 4. Even though they go to extremes to pep up the fans and team members, they enjoy the hard work and long hours. Many a day they sit in the hallway chomping on food and racking their brains to come up with new ideas for pepfests. And don’t forget those posters! It takes time to get an idea, mix the paint, get enough paper, and then leave the mess for Ms. Butler or Andy. Yes, being a cheerleader takes a lot of time but we sure appreciate them even if we don’t show it. 2. Girls basketball cheerleaders. Row 1: P. Kelly Row 2: C. Ra- duenz, J. Raduenz Row 3: J. The team, made up of 52 players and led by Coaches Hindt, Johnson, and Kemp, ended the season with 7 wins and only 2 losses. They played Fulda in the first round of playoffs and beat them decisivily 46 to 7. The next playoff game was against Jackson. The Rabbits battled it out to the end but went home with a 41 to 15 loss. Brian Rothmeier. Jeff Zick, and Bob Hirsch were chosen for the all- conference football team. Chosen as honorable mention were Jack Sagedahl, Mike Pistulka, and Brad Kletscher. No this is no typing error, it is the battle cry for this year’s girls' basketball team. The girls were small In number, so that made competition very tough. Although the season was disappoint- ing, the girls were up for every game and always gave it their best shot. Under the coaching of Lawrence Kallevig the Rabbits won their district game against Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s and then lost to Sanborn Lamberton. Linda Pohlen was cho- sen for honorable mention. 1. Eleven wrestlers went on to the region and two went on to the state. Region placers were Terry Jenniges, Brian Rothmeier, Bob Hirsch, and Bill Pe- tracek. Terry and Bob went on to the state where Terry finished a very respectable 4th. The wrestling team was led, once again by Coach Hindt and assistant Coach Mathiowetz. The A squad finished with a record of 14 and 1, losing to Canby in the region competition. The B squad finished undefeated with a record of 12 and 0. Coach Johnson again had a fine turn-out of boys. Wabasso went on to win the Windom and Wabasso Invitationals and also took second in the Conference. This Year's captains were Rick Guetter and Jeff Zick. Two assistant coaches who did a fine job of helping out Coach Johnson were Pete Berg and Terri Woodford. HARD WORK PAYS OFF Here’s a group of students who perhaps work the hardest of anyone for their education. Although these students are handi- capped they make remarkable accomplishments which other students clnnot boast of. Several of them have received awards for participation in the Special Olympics. Quentin Radel gradu- ated this ye ar with the 1986 Senior Class. Their teacher, Betty Appel, deserves much of the credit for teaching these special students. 1. Julie and Barb working hard! 2. He stayed with the Wayne An- dersen family and participated in the 10th grade level in school. Rene is from Denmark. When asked about Wabasso and the surrounding area he commented that. “The people were very nice and helpful.” He also said. “It was nice to be able to know everyone since it was a small community. It was nice knowing you too. Rene. 1. T. Andersen. R. Raabjerg, W. An- dersen. Daniela is from Chili and she stayed with the Ralph Frericks family while she was here. She was also in the 10th grade. When Daniel was asked how she liked it here she said, “I love it and would like to live here the rest of my life. I love the weather and the vegetation because I live in a desert.” Come back and visit us sometime, Daniela. 2. Annette Frer- icks, Daniela Ortiz. Last but not least is our foreign exchange sut- dent from Japan, Chikako Tabuchi. Chikako lived with the Leon Otto family her year here and she was part of the 1986 Senior Class. When asked about the way we live she replied, “People have more time and opportunity to be with nature and their families. I guess we are busy in Japan. Well, Chikako rural life may be slower paced, but isn't it fun?! 3. Rov.r 1: D. Otto, W. Otto, C. Tabuchi, M. Otto, Mrs. fTabuchi. The squad members entertained at foot- ball games, basketball games, and wres- tling matches. The squad made a good showing at state competition where they performed to Mony Mony , a routine choreographed by the entire line. The up to date music and dance routines were very interesting to watch and helped make this a great year. 1. Captain A. Price. Adviser Mrs. Plaetz. Captain C. Plaetz, Treasurer C. For those of you out there who just don’t know what or why this organization exists, here's an answer. The W-Club is made up of all athletes who have lettered in a sport. So, what do they do? They run the conces- sion stand during games and raise money to help out their various sports. When they are not doing that, they're running around in funny uniforms playing sports or bugging coaches. What a great bunch of kids! 1. W-Club Officers. B. Rothmeier, C. Werner. B. Kletscher. 2. 1985-86 W-Club. THE MEMORY MAKERS Here comes the 1986 annual — full of fun and memo- ries of the past year. The people who make these memories possible are the annual staff. They work all year gathering information and putting it together to get a book full of events and experiences shared by the student body. Also included in the annual staff are the photographers who take pictures for this book of memories. Here’s looking at the Annual Staff! 1. Junior High Paper Staff and Rabbit Tales. Bottom to Top: B.
