Both students and teachers wore anything from saggy clothes to Hefty 3-ply garbage bags. Tuesday WHS hit a time warp as fashion went Back to the 1950's . When Morning Practice Day rolled around, students were seen sleepily walking to class wear- ing robes, PJ's and slippers, and carrying teddybears. An explosion of color hit the halls on Thursday as everyone dressed up for Hawaiian Beach Day . Grass skirts, sun- galsses, shorts, beach towels, inner-tubes, and flippers were some of the tropical items worn. Friday was the traditional Maroon Gold Day . The popular game show. Family Feud, brought much excite- ment to the WHS gym as the Jones family (junior-freshman team) was pitted against the Smith family (senior-sopho- more team). At the Thursday afternoon activity, the seniors were victors in a volleyball obstacle course. Thursday even- ing the WHS volleyball team was matched up against Fair- fax, with the Rabbits wiping the Eagles off the court in a 2-0 victory. On Friday, the sophomore-junior team won the powder-puff game 6-0. The Rabbit football team fought a hard battle Friday evening, but came up short with a 6-20 loss to Sleepy Eye St. Mary's. The band, twirlers, Fantasia , and cheerleaders added extra pep to all the activities. The festivities ended Saturday, October 8 to the music of Jerry Gladis at the homecoming dance. Page 8 1. The cast consisted of 29 hardworking performers, plus the lighting crews, stage manager, and pianists. Mary Kay Schweim directed the production with the assistance of Mi- chelle Moran. Four productions of the Lerner and Lowe musi- cal were given, with the last two being open for the public to come and enjoy. All in all, the fall play Camelot was a huge success!! 1. A NIGHT IN HEAVEN The Junior-Senior Prom, A Night in Heaven” proved to be a huge success as a record 63 couples made their way through the beautiful angel-like decorations designed and put up by the junior class. Many long, strenuous hours were put into the prom by a few key people and the new junior class advisors, Ms. Butler and Mrs. Altermatt. Several changes were made in the prom in order to make it more attractive and increase attendance. A movie and breakfast were added, and the whole affair was moved from the Wanda Legion Hall to the high school gym. The band ''OBSESSION” provided the wild and fun music. To those who attended the prom, those special and dreamy memories will forever be remembered as their first sensational Night in Heaven . 1. Sophomore Waiters and Waitresses: R. Guetter, S. The Rab- bits, coached by Val Oftedahl, who was as- sisted by Nancy Hoffman, and led by cap- tains Margaret Frank and Luonna VanMe- veren, were victorious in 8 consecutive games before meeting the Springfield Ti- gers. Supported by many enthusiastic fans, the well rounded team continued with a great fighting effort to end their season with a 13-5 record. Although the team lost to Belview in round 1 of the district tourna- ment, they were seated second in the con- ference. They will forever remain number one in the hearts of their fans. 1. It was the end of a fantastic season, great teamwork, and fine coaching as the Rabbits rallied their way to a 13-7 overall record. With games often being nailbiters, the players showed their strength and ability to keep them on top of some tough teams. Although many of their losses came late in the season, Coach Voas and co-captains Dan Fischer and Paul Kratzke managed to pull the team back together for a sixth seed in District 10 and victory in round one before losing a tough battle against Walnut Grove in the second round of district action. All was not lost, however, as Wabasso captured the Sportsmanship Trophy to end the season on a satisfying note. 1. A Squad Boys' Basketball. Coach Voas, T. Maust, B. Wahl, K. Berg, D. Eis, B. The girls had a fine showing at district and region. L. Van Meveren placed 1st in the 100m hurdles at Region earning her a chance to compete at State. The team was led by captains Luonna VanMeveren and Margaret Frank. Since this year's team was quite young, there should be a strong team next year. 1. Girl's track team. Row 1: S. Kramer, T. With the age and leadership of six seniors, including co-captains T. Schumacher and P. Kratzke, and the enthusiasm of the underclassmen, this year's squad had quite a successful season. They placed second at both conference and district meets and made a fine showing at the region level with P. Kratzke going on to state. The team was coached by Rick Jonson and Raliegh Voas. 1. It consisted of all girls with the exception of Tim Schumacher who was their year-round accompanist. They had only three practice sessions per week to prepare for four concerts and the home- coming coronation which were all a fine success. 1. Senior High Choir. Star denotes Select Choir member. Their hard work and determi- nation paid off in the fine performances given throughout the year in all four concerts. Be- sides concerts, the band was busy playing at athletic events, as well as at homecoming cor- nation. Under the direction of Ken Wistrom the group earned a star rating at the large group contest in Lamberton. Most certainly the highlight of the year came when the band traveled to Kansas City, Missouri, to play in a national band concert where they earned a di- vision one star, the highest rating given in this competition. 1. This is not an easy job, but with this years hard- working staff it was made a bit easier. Mr. Lien, assisted by Paula Dudgeon, was the advisor. He did an excellent job considering he was a rookie at it! We would like to thank the editors for their hard work and dedication. We hope you enjoy the annual and refer to it when remembering W.H.S. 1. Assistant Editor- Jill Fischer. Advisor- Jeff Lien, Editor- Terri Fischer. 2. Mr. Lien hard at work! 3. Row one: T. Rohlik, W. Everyone on the team advanced to District, where three advanced to region competition. Wabasso had two people advance to the state level, which was held at Shakopee High School, on April 27th. Tim Shumacher captured the 2nd place finish in the serious prose category. This year's declam team proved that hard work, practice, and talent really do pay off! 1. District Declam Team. Row 1: R. Goblirsch as co-edi- tors, and Gary Severson as advisor, the staff printed four issues this year. The photographers, D. Ander- sen and J. Rauk, were kept busy taking and develop- ing the pictures for the pa- per. To end the year, the staff had a picnic in the park when they put the senior paper together. It was a welcome sight to see the Rabbit Tracks back in Wabasso High School! 1. Sr. High Paper Staff: Row 1: C. Heiling, L. Stage, R. Deprez, K. Berg. Row 2: S. Goblirsch, M. Goblirsch, M. Guest speaker was Dr. Christian Eis- man, professor of history and dean of the social science department at Southwest State University. Student speakers commented on the four qualities needed to be- come an N.H.S. member. Each year members are chosen by faculty who make up the National Honor Society Chapter Council. They carefully evaluate students who are scholastically eligible for membership. Congratula- tions to all N.H.S. members on a fine job!! I. N.H.S. Row 1: G. Raddatz, R. Brown, J. Kreft, J. Rauk, J. The Diary Products Team consisting of Mark Macht, Mark Stage, and George Goblish placed in the Bronze Group at the state conven- tion. Also competing at state were the Horticulture Team of Kathy Miller, Lori Stage, and Patty Turbes. They re- ceived 16th place. This year's officers were Gary Salfer, president, and Doug Daub, vice-president. At the annual F.F.A. Banquet, Lila Kreft was crowned F.F.A. Sweetheart. Members of the W club spent many long hours in a variety of sports. This year these dedicated athletes had to become salespeople and sell reffle tickets and concessions to buy new equipment for the athletic department. At the annual athletic ban- quet honoring the athletes, speaker Dick Jonakowski entertained a large crowd with his jokes and witty stories. Many athletes were also presented with awards for their accomplishments throughout the year. Con- gratulations, you did a super job, just super! I. W club officers: K. Guetter-president, W. STUDENT GOVERNMENT This year the Student Council has been working extra hard to bring up student participa- tion in school related activi- ties. The Student Council again sponsored the home- coming dance, coronation, and a lyceum, plus another dance featuring videos. Not only must they check who's riding and who's not, they must also stop fights, control loud yelling, keep kids in their seats, and help the younger passengers with their prob- lems. They are depeneded on by drivers and kids riding the bus. Without these people drivers would have to maintain law and order while driving, which certainly would not be an easy job. 1. Bus Patrol. He spent his two months here with the Rauk family in their Lucan home. Ra- mon really enjoyed the chance to compare our school to the one he attends in Panama. He was amused by the snow and the cold weather that accompanied it. He is an easy going gentleman with a quiet personality that makes it incredibly easy to like him. Ramon gave students a better view of what life is all about. All were sad to see him leave. Adios and good luck, Ramon. 1. For- eign exchange student Ramon Lasso with host students J. and M.
