The town of Wabasso, like many oth- ers, joined the country s bicentennial celebration. On October 23» Lt. Gov- ernor Rudy Perpich presented Wabasso with a bicentennial flag. He arrived here at 9 00 a.m. and talked with the sixth graders from St. Anne s and Wabasso Public School for an hour. Then he went to the social gathering at the City Hall. Mayor John Mauer be- gan by welcoming everyone. Lt. Govern- or Perpich gave a speech and the activ- ities planned by the bicentennial com- mittee were reviewed. Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor was one of the songs performed by the Pop Singers. The bicentennial flag was then pre- sented to the city and can be seen fly- ing proudly at the Post Office.

JUBILEE Bicentennial Minute The year 1975 marked an important turning point for the community of Wabasso. On June ll -l6 of that year the village proudly observed her 75th birthday. Festivities began with the Miss Wabasso con- test, a first for Wabasso. Jeanne Franta became Miss Wabasso and was queen over all of the Jubi- lee festivities. A pageant presented by local residents told of Wabasso s birth and growth. It brought the community together and uncovered much unknown talent. The celebration also included a Ride-and-Tie race, a flower show, and a quilting bee. The climax for the three day celebration was Wabasso s Jubilee parade which included everything from a Model T to a live lion.
