During his first year here as su- perintendent of School District 61+0, Melvin Salmela took over the many and sometimes difficult responsibil- ities that all superintendents must face. These responsibilities in- cluded carrying out the school board decisions, hiring teachers, deciding on all educational matters, and set- ting and enforcing school regulations for all school activities. Melvin Salmela was bom in Sebeka, Minnesota. Before taking over the superintendent s job here in Wabas- so, he had been superintendent at Nashua, Iowa, for eight years. Mr. Salmela received his education at Floodwood, Minnesota, the University of Minnesota, and at the University of Northern Iowa. RIGHT: Superintendent Melvin Sal- mela.

ADMINISTRATION In the Heat of the Night This past year the school board dealt with their usual problems. They tried to make the school system satisfactory to students, fac- ulty, and parents.
