Dance This year’s danceline had sixteen members and two alternates. They per- formed with the band at parades in Olivia at Corn Cob Days and in San- born for Watermelon Days . They also performed during the football, basket- ball and wrestling seasons. This year’s danceline has a lot of new girls, mostly freshman and sopho- mores. They also has a new director this year, Miss Kremer who worked hard in helping them work out their routines and in reminding them to smile and spit out their gum before they performed. The girls worked hard and had a lot of fun. They also learned the importance of cooperation, and of learning from their mistakes. BELOW-Row Is S. Hoffman, N. Schoo, K. Price. Row 2: C. Berghs, S. The Seventh grade this year, coming from grade school, had to learn to ad- just to the different surroundings of junior high. One of the activities that the sev- enth grade participated in was Home- coming. With their inexperienced hands they did quite well, winning a prize for their float. Other activities included junior high concerts and basketball games. The team took home a trophy from Mor- gan. A new attraction which the Seventh graders enjoyed was the junior high dances they put on. They had a dance for Halloween and Valentine's Day. A fund-raiser for this prom was the concession stand. This stand brought in many extra dollars needed to sponsor the prom. Most juniors were starting to carefully consider what their plans may be for the future. Career Night, which was held in late October, left many great questions in their minds. In the latter part of January, the class received their beautifully designed, oval- shaped rings. The stone.® were chosen from the twelve different birthstone colors. But as the days, weeks, and months went by, the freshmen became very well acquainted with the school and teachers. One of the projects of the fresh- men class was making the king and queen float for homecoming. FOREIGN EXCHANGE Remembrances This year we sheered our schooling ex- perience with two foreign exchange students: Smaragda Sazotou came from Greece and spent the whole school year as a senior with us while she lived at Ralph Hagert s. Monica Carvalho came from Brazil after Christmas, and was a sophomore. She made her home with the Ed Robasse's. Both girls enjoyed living in our small community because they got to visit with al- most all of its citizens. They also enjoyed school very much because school is easier here compared to what they were used to in their countries. The girls didnft seem to have any problems with the English language and they easily found their way in our school. Monica enjoyed sking and it was the first time that she saw snow in her life. Monica s classes were ph. ed., English, teacher s aid, crafts, consumer foods and typing. Monica hopes to come again after two years for the graduation of her class Smaragda took senior English and social studies, Introduction to theater, geometry, consumer foods, American history, and art. She got involved in quite a few activities since she wanted to have many different ex- periences to remember. Smaragda graduated with the class of 7U and had her first gown and cap experience. Both girls thank their families for the chance they had to have a wonderful time at Wabasso and promise never to forget all their friends, teachers and parents. He is responsible for carrying out school board decisions, hiring teachers, and presiding over educational matters. Mr. Bye along with other administrative officials has had the difficult job of keeping the school regulations and enforcing the school act- ivities. RIGHT: Superintendent, Mr. Carl Bye. The school board has once a- gain set forth all of their ef- forts to help make this school what it is today. Two new members are Mr. John Franta and Mrs. Betty Zoliner. These people attend meetings once every month. At the meetings they discuss the old and new business, and they give their final thoughts to each subject. Because of these special people, our school is one that each and everyone of us can be proud of. RIGHT: School Board-Row 1: M. Fuhr, M Bittner, C. Bye, R. Daub. Row 2: J. Franta, G. Alexander, L. HIGH STUDENT COUNCIL BELOW: Student Council sponsored the NHS banquet which was held on April 27 Rabbit Leaders The Student Council is a group of class rep- resentatives elected to do the work requiring the cooperation and combined effort of each class. They serve the school administration and the students as go-betweens and their efforts benefit both groups. In the beginning of the year, the student council members fulfilled the Job of selling tickets and making sure nobody 'snuck into the football games. Another activity they sponsored was the homecoming. They kept themselves busy selling buttons and organizing it. The National Honor Society Banquet was a new challenge for them. The student council spon- sored it this year and worked with NHS to make this new type of program a success. ABOVE: Student Council-Row 1: C. Guetter, J. blirsch, D. Rohlik, T. Kramer, D. Zimmer, R. Although it is open to everyone, no boys seemed brave enough to join. Each girl spends one to two hours a week in the library doing jobs such as signing passes. The Library Club is a very social group. They had many parties during the year including bowling and gym parties. A mother-daughter tea was held on May 16 when the girls received their annual awards. Each girl had to earn her award through a point system. One hundred and forty dollars were earned through a stationery sale. They also visited the Minneapolis Muni- cipal Building, and sat in on courts that were in session. It was a good experience for them all. The main activity of the FHA this year was the Christmas roller skating party with the FFA boys. They skated well considering most of them were beginners, but they had a lot of fun. Well that s what happened at WHS. All the girls are members of the Girls Athletic Association. Whether they were active or not was their own decision. The girls developed their skills after school when they had access to such equipment as mats, trampoline, uneven bars, the horse, and the balance beam. They also used the track equipment. During the year you could find some of the active members involved in a volley ball, bas- ketball, or maybe even a softball game. They also went bowling and rollerskating. The bus patrol members made it through another year of counting heads, yelling at the top of their lungs, and secretly wishing they could wring a few necks. These stu- sents deserve a lot of credit for bringing some peace to the buses. As long as there are kids riding school buses, there will be dedicated students on bus patrol. ART CLUB Imaginative Artists The newly formed Art Club 8 greatest accomplishment was the painting of the mural on the north wall of the art boom. The members were responsible for setting up displays found in Wa- basso and around the school during March which was National Art Month. Members tried making artistic pizzas at a party held at Miss Jackson's apartment. RIGHT: Standing by the poster advertising March as National Youth Art Month was Smaragda Sazotou.
