Trying to umderstand apposatives and indirect objects resulted in super concentration on the part of most stu- dents. Another aspect of English was writing a term paper. A lot of e stu- dents spent their study halls in the library with a stack of books. Every- one was relieved when the final draft was typed and handed in. They are Constanza (Connie) Parr who lived with the Cletus Altermatt fami- ly and Hebe Ferreira who stayed with the John Franta family. Connie is from Chili. She speaks Spanish and when she first came she could speak little English and it was very hard for her to understand our way of speech. But she is understand- ing it more and more. Hebe' s hometown is Brazilia, Brazil. She is an only child and she lives with her mother and her uncle. Her father died 6 years ago in a river tragedy. The Ferreira's have their own maid as does most everyone of Brazil. Both girls said the food was dif- ferent. Hebe had never seen snow be- fore she came. Hebe and Connie have both become involved in track. They both like living here except they will be glad to get back to their own countries. Both girls said their families here are so wonderful to them. The friends they met here will never be forgotten. « UPPER: Hebe Ferreira from Brazil. ABOVE: Constanza Parr from Chili. Because of the popularity of chorus, the junior high formed two vocal groups, girls chorus and mixed chorus. There were thirty-three students in mixed chorus and ninety in girls chorus. When school began in the fall, Mr. Adams put the chorus members to work in preparation for the fall concert. After many hours of hard work, the two groups sounded like professionals. The year-book staff got off to a good start at the beginning of the yean. Layouts were done, pictures taken and then were pasted on layout sheets. The typing style was changed to a block style type. The staff works hard trying to get a yearbook together for you. The pressures of putting out a news- paper were reduced with the addition of a paperstaff class 2nd hour. During the week of publication the staff mem- bers type the stories. Then the editors lay out the paper uptown in the Standard office the night before the paper comes out. Below: Row 1: Mr. Lein, C. What Next ? bus patrol Kids-wouldn't you just love to tie them up at times. You may have seen some girls and boys stumbling out of the buses wear- ing an angry expression on their faces and clutching a bunch of pa- pers. These girls and boys might be the bus patrols, who have just suf- fered through another nerve racking bus ride. Above: BUS PATROL- Front Row: K. Gales, M. Engel, K. Jenniges, J. Hillesheim, B.
