Band One of the real thrills for band members dur- ing the '57-58 school year was taking part in Band Day at the University of Minnesota on September 28th. Many days of marching prac- tice were spent before appearing in Memorial Stadium that warm Saturday. The band also marched at Homecoming, forming several in- teresting formations during the half-time show. On December 19th, the band gave a joint Christ mas concert with the grade school and the choruses. This concert concluded with a band number, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas ; the dialogue for it was read by Gloria Froelich On January 28th, the Belview High School Band presented a concert to the students, and on March 4th, Wabasso bandsmen gave a concert for the Belview Student Body. On Sunday, March 9th, they gave their annual spring concert to the public. Also featured on the program were the Junior Band and a fife and bottle band. Highlight of the program was a saxophone solo by Rachel Wittwer, accom- panied by the band. On April 11th, the long-awaited music festival was held at Sanborn. Of the twelve instru- mental and ensembles entered, eleven received I ratings. All of the ensembles and all instru- mentalists except freshman soloists, who were eliminated by a state ruling, also entered the regional at Worthington, held on April 25th. Four new drums purchased during the year have brought those satisfied expressions into members of the percussion section. From left to right are D. Wilson, B. Schaffran, K. Kruse, M. Wittwer, and C. Arends. Majorettes for the band during the marching season are Pat Zieske, Gayle Werner, and Jeri Berg, head majorette.
