1977 Warrior Wabasha-Kellogg High School Wabasha, Minnesota Table of Contents Dedication............................... Faculty..................................3 Clubs...................................23 Seniors.................................33 Underclassmen...........................43 Events................................. 51 Sports................................. 65 The New Beginning.......................83 We dedicate the 1977 Warrior to Mrs. Elvira Passe for her years of devotion to the students of District 811. 2 v L-; - Faculiy i. Administration and Counselors With the leadership of Superintendent Sandberg and Principal Doty, and the guidance of counselors Boots and Nelson, the students of W-K gain a knowledge and respect for their fellow members of society now and for the future. Upon graduation, the classes of W-K will be able to look back and reflect on the lessons in life taught by these dedicated men, and will take a step to a new beginning. 5 Office Aides Mrs. Dose and her crew of office aides helped out in the administration of W-K. The school secretary and her helpers did odd jobs such as typing, running off copies of important materials, taking care of the money of the various organizations, and generally making it easier on the faculty and students alike. One will always remember too, the bright smiles one is greeted with upon coming into the office managed by Mrs. Dose and the aides. 6 Cooks and Custodians Also contributing to the spirit of W-K were its cooks and custodians. The cooks provided a good, hot meal to the students, and the custodians made the rooms neat and orderly. The custodians also were here to help with extracurricular activities such as the many dances the school provided . 7 AV and me Mrs. Nelson and Mr. Gjerstad provided extra materials and services to the faculty and students. Mrs. Nelson's responsibility was patrolling the IMC at her own risk. Mr. Gjerstad handled the technical aspects of W-K offten at the risk of life and limb. 8 Business The business department contributed to the education of tomorrow's secretaries and businessmen. Students were able to benefit from the knowledge of Mr. Miller and Mrs. Loshek. These two teachers (and their students) also proved to be interesting photographic subjects. 9 Industrial Arts and Agriculture The manual vocations were represented by industrial arts and agriculture classes. The guys (and girls) learned the basic principles of the death and destruction of the corn borer from Mr. Colbenson, and woodworking, metals, and auto shop from Mr. Hansen and Mr. Anderson. 10 Art and Home Art and home ec supply creative outlets for the students, guys and girls alike. Fine arts such as burning brownies and flattening peach parfaits were learned by the students under the teaching of Mrs. Jahnke. Mrs. Huntoon introduced arts and crafts to W-K. Language Arts The language arts department under the guidance of Mr. Meisch, Mrs. Carr, Miss Mayer, Mrs. Schultz, and Mrs. Books learned the students how to spoke properly. Mr. Meisch introduced into the lives of all his students a different view of the teaching world (especially Jeff Wills!). Miss Mayer, Mrs. Carr, and Mrs. Schultz put their students through another year of poems, grammar and novels, and who knows if they succeeded. Mrs. Books bestowed upon her pupils an unequivocal vehemence for Spanish linguistics. Comprendes? 12 14 Math and Science The math and science department offered the students such varied anxieties as turtles and take-home tests for the upperclassmen and the warped personalities of Mr. Paulson and Mr. Fiedler. As for Mr. Frost and Mrs. Passe, they gave the freshmen a preview of the hassles of homework with physical science and Algebra I. 15 Social Studies Mr. Loretz and Mr. Nelson, assisted by Mrs. Books, gave the students an insight into culture, past and present. These two men 'coached' their charges both on the court or field and in the classroom. 16 Physical Education Ms. Olson Mr. Karger 17 FLUTE BASS CLARINET FRENCH HORN Tammy Belter Marla Lindemer Mike Greenheck Polly Kennedy Sheila Nihart Cindy Mussell Julie Koopman Jackie Seyffer Anne Suilmann TROMBONE Jean Suilmann CONTRA BASS CLARINET Jeff Cerise Liz Wendt Kathy Schuth Don Dick Randy Fellows OBOE BARI SAXOPHONE Jim Hammer Vicki Sullivan Jim Sheehan Bill Johnson Sherri Johnson CLARINET ALTO SAXOPHONE Ernie Lillie Amy Cierzan Debbie Behrns Jeff Miller Karla Gustafson Nancy Belter Cheryl Hartert Mary Wallerich BARITONE Jim Holland Lisa Kennedy Teresa Kennebeck TENOR SAXOPHONE Steve Polyard Shelly Plank Shelly Mathias TUBA Laurie Rademacher Anne Rivers TRUMPET Jeff Passe Theresa Roerich Dennis Dick Cheryl Sill Tim Fisk PERCUSSION Becky Wolfe Paul Holland Mike Kreye Julie Mathias Joe McNallan ALTO CLARINET Paul Metz Phil Perry Joan Greenheck Dan Sobeck Cheri Wilson Sue Perry Lynn Suilmann John Walter Brian Wolfe 18 Lynn Suilmann, Sue Perry, Tim Fisk. The spring musical, OKLAHOMA! This play was presented to the public May 5th and 6th with standing ovation. Oklahoma had the highest ticket sales ever in the history of W-K's Drama Department. It was obvious that talent was on the stage with Dawn Biever and Rod Sill having the leading roles. Mary Glomski, Matt Abbott, Cindy Speedling, and Jay Scott also brought the state of Oklahoma into the auditorium. Jon Trollen proved himself worthy of being the villain of this performance. The play would have never left the starting blocks without the director, Mr. Meisch. He truly made this years musical hard to forget. 54 Lynn Suilmann Let's all act like a__! !! ■ hat does Kass Abbott do when Aunt Eller shoots the gun??? 55 Homecoming School spirit was evident during the 1976 Homecoming Ceremony. The class of '79 won the spirit award for the second year in a row. After the bon-fire and coronation there was a CARAVAN of cars led by Dan Gosse's Sprint. A chain of 28 vehicles woke the families of Wabasha and Kellogg to let them know it was Homecoming at Wabasha-Kellogg High. Crimson and Clover was the theme, and decorations dressed the common area accordingly. Prom, with all its frills and dazzle, will be remembered by all its seniors, in memories, for many years. 58 59 Foreign Exchange Students From all over rhe world, siudents come to America to see the good life. Wabasha-Kellogg is a part of that, and it's great that we are able to make friends all across the globe. We may never see these students again but their faces are captured in the Warrior forever. Junko Iwata from Japan Jon Morphett from Australia, Matt Abbott from America and Annej Ojapelto from Finland. Sports Football The Varsity football team displayed a fine winning season. Although 14 lettering seniors are leaving the squad, a strong and energetic group of men are here to hold the Hiawatha Valley League title.
