Winter Carnival If I could save time in a bottle, the first thing that I'd like to do, is to save everyday till eternity passes away, just to spend it with you. Jim Croce's song was the theme of the 1973-74 Winter Carnival. It was a week of laughter and fun and a chance to get acquainted with the snow. There was an action-filled basketball game, an exciting dance and a Snow King and Snow Queen. And everyone went away with a bottle of memories that time cannot erase... The story concerned a wealthy celebrity, Sheridan Whiteside (Brian Dose) who with his secretary Maggie Cutlei (Julie Raimer) visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley (Ken Graner, Linda Fosmo). The trouble began when Whiteside, fell on the sidewalk of his host's home and was forced to remain in the small town longer than anticipated. The troubles that arose were numerous and comical. The love affair between Maggie and Bert (Dean Plank) was dangerously threatened. The Stanley's children were planning to leave home and furthermore, a jar of calf's foot jelly was broken! ! ?! There were dozens of other incidents that took place. Maybe we could discuss them over dinner. (ABOVE): K. Gustafson and M. Abbott rehearse for WHS's fall play. (RIGHT): S. Passe explains his cockroaches to B. Dose as J. Raimer watches in disgust. V One Act Samual Beckett's ACTS I AND II WITHOUT WORDS is a play that will long be remembered by many people. This play had a deep meaning about the futility and repetition of life. The cast made history for WHS by making it all the way to State competition. Brian Dose was awarded best actor in the District Competition, and each member of the cast was complimented on his grace and physical control. Speaking of beauty, girls have been seen in the shop classes, which just proves that Womens Lib is everywhere - even at WHS! The instructors were Mr. Hansen and Mr. Anderson, and we think they did a fine job with the boys this year. 40 Phy. Ed. Hup two, three, four. Get those bodies moving! The Phy. Ed. department at WHS is a vigorous and exciting program. The classes are held in the morning hours, which aids in waking the students up. We start with the Freshmen, who were generally working on odd jobs to get their treasury built up. Next are the Sophomores, who are in charge of Homecoming Goal Posts and Winter Carnival decoration and coronation. Then come the Juniors, who by far have the most hectic jobs. They had to sell concessions and stationary to raise money for the Prom. This is never an easy job. Ask any one of the involved juniors if you doubt it. Last, but not least, are the Seniors. They are in charge of Homecoming decoration and Graduation, the last of their efforts. And this year it proved to be a job well done. (TOP) FRESHMAN CLASS L. TO R. D. Biever, Sec. K. Karger, Pres. M. A new and cheerful face that the school and especially the band and chorus will never forget is Chuck Blatt-ner's. Chuck was energetic and hard working. Under his direction the Chorus won three stars in district competition and performed at three outstanding concerts. The last concert was the most exciting and meaningful. Jim Woodhouse sang as a guest which entertained the chorus as well as the audience. Chuck will never be forgotten and we will always remember his favorite words: Then shall all shackles fall, The stormy clangor of wild war music over the earth shall cease. Love shall tread out the baleful fire of anger. And in its ashes shall plant the tree of peace. L. TOR. ROW 1, D. Vogt, C. Schuth, J. Giem, S. Arens, R. Graner, H. Passe, B. Loechler, E. NHS And Councils This year's NHS had a very prosperous year. They worked hard on various money-making projects such as card parties, candy sales and magazine drives to help finance their eight day trip to New York. They also gained eighteen new members at their April 9th induction. The Student Council did a fine job this year, representing the students and helping school spirit. The council held a 50's dance and had candy sales and other fund raising events. The advisor was Mrs. Bina. Connie Carlson was president. The members of the Student Council are D. Vogt, K. Totem Poll, Stilletto Spanish Club The Totem Poll staff was busily occupied with the production of six newspapers this year and a trip to the University of Minnesota in the fall. The newspaper was read and appreciated by many students and faculty members. The Stilletto was published at Christmas and at the close of the year. It is a magazine of poetry written by the students and the Christmas issue included art work. The Spanish Club held an extraordinary Spanish Fair at Christmas. The club members worked very hard making trinkets and jewelry to sell at the fair, which was a great success. SPANISH CLUB FRONT ROW L TO R: D. Sullivan, J. Greenheck, D. Tibor, B. Kruger, K. Graduation Day The years flew by like lightning until the final day of twelve long years of knowledge came to an end. Graduation day arrived sunny and warm and full of memories and hope. We gathered together in the junior high building where we were joined six years ago, when the public and Catholic schools united. We waited in anticipation for the moment for which we had prepared for so long. Then slowly we began to thread our way to the athletic field like a long green satin ribbon. One by one we took our seats. The program went by quickly. Linda Fosmo and Mike Gustafson and Mr. Meisch spoke their words of wisdom. Mr. Doty and Mr. Metz handed each senior his ticket to freedom. Then suddenly it was all over, as if the Senior Class of 1974 had never existed. We each went our separate ways, never to return again to good old WHS... The last march. Glenda Kennedy and Eileen Theismann. 88 The seniors sing together for the last time before they move on. Mr. Meisch: In the beginning was the word. 89 Mike Gustafson sums up the year in his Valedictorian Address. S. Oenning and B. Ireland goof off until the end. 90 IT'S OVER It's so hard to say it's over But you'll get along without us It's so hard to say it's over We know that you won't doubt this It's so hard to say it's over As our tears we try to hid It's so hard to say it's over But these tears are tears of pride It's so hard to say it's over How quickly we have grown! It's so hard to say it's over We guess that you know why It's so hard to say it's over So hard to say Good-by It's so hard to say it's over And there's nothing left to say Except, please grant us courage As we pass along the way.. . The Senior Class of 1974 Old And New School No more windy winter mornings, listening to the teachers' lecture through the chattering teeth of bundled up students. No more earthquakes when some one bounds lightly down the old stairs. No more squeaky floors or broken windows. No more WHS. But we still love you, old school. You've stood the cracks and blows and sticky gum we've harassed you with. You've been everything we could have expected you to be. And we hope the Jr. High isn't too hard on you. Good-bye WHS!
