Tom Butler presents the reigning Sweetheart, Connie Phebus. Vets Club Chooses Sweetheart At Their Thanksgiving Dance Thanksgiving Eve found the Wabash Valley College students at V.F.W. Post 4276 dancing away their tensions after an arduous Fall Quarter. The occasion was the First Veterans Organization Sweetheart Dance. From all the young women at the dance, the Vets chose Miss Connie Phebus to reign as their first Sweetheart for the remainder of the school year. She received a crown, a bouquet of roses, and a congrat- ulatory kiss from several eager club members. John Brown’s body wails out. 119

118 Happy students enjoy a bumpy ride through the country beneath a silvery stream of harvest moonlight. Students cheerfully braved the crisp night air, to participate in the Hay Ride and Wiener Roast sponsored by the Sophomore Class. The first major activity of the school year and the first chilly blasts of autumn weather collided on the evening of November 3. Over two hundred stu- dents gathered at the Student Union to begin the two hour trip through fields and along country roads to Conservation Lake, the site of the wiener roast. The good at- tendance foretold a prevailing at- mosphere of fun and enthusiastic participation for the entire year. Kenny Marlowe keeps his ears warm while other brave the biting cold. Michael Dinsmore, Timothy Holmes, Richard Lowry, and John Smith bring up the trail end of the wagon caravan. Hay Ride--A Warm Reception To A Chilly Activity :

Student Senate uses twinkling candlelight and hearty food to provide a pleasant atmosphere for good conver- sation. Lewis Ratcliff and Ron Lemons entertain the guests with contemporary sounds. The Student Senate’s Christmas gift to the student body evokes broad smiles. 120
