Once more the struggle is ended and i am at peace when i can lay down my troubles and see them for what they are instead of what i had feared them to be. A place of solace where i can laugh and cry-- at the same time if i want-- for i need not disguise my make-up or explain myself to me. Together we are the same we are one in the world i call my campus. if § - iy ie, A EN Ne a kam SaaS, ‘ | Os AS Kf SG, ny q i ache to love and be loved by you In a world that is sometimes cruel. And always lonely. i need someone to complete my oneness to make me try to balance my successes And my failures. 1am one in search of another one. You. And if i leave this campus with only a college degree i will have gained nothing if you are not a part of me for the most in life can only be mine if i have you And our strengths are one in the world that is our campus. This life of mine has never known unquestionable certainty. Or lasting identity. A new tomorrow is always born. And i, too, begin. Again. Sometimes, when i look at myself i find i am alone with only my soul to guide me as i drift in some unknown direction in search of the best way the greatest degree of understanding the fullest life. It is the superlative degree of goodness that challenges me now and i cannot compromise on the urgencies of my spirit. For whether i negotiate the sum of my existence in base ten or base two iam but one and the world is my campus. ee een ——— When my mind is broken by the many and cumbersome academic incidentals it is expected to carry... and remember i come together with a friend. And we share And i do silly things that make me a child again. My world becomes a comedy instead of the tragedy i had rationalized it to be. Once more i can laugh and give of myself to those who live to love. And love to live. In that order only. No other will do when the world is your campus. The art room was quiet except for the hushed planning session between Yearbook sponsor, Don Swift and Morris Miller, an “‘Oubache” staff photo- grapher. Each “Oubache”’ staff member is doing his own thing while Jack Bush thinks. 80 s ma” Seated: Rick Basnett, Anna Campbell, Chris Talley, Lorraine McFarland, Clyde Williams. Staff member, Teresa Ripley, is on duty to take down names of those who order a yearbook. 1972 Oubache Staff Creates a New Look This year, the Oubache Staff has worked to produce a new and different book. With the addition of color and the change from miniature to standard size, the staff can truly claim to have created a bigger, brighter yearbook. Creativity has been stressed as a prime element in the production of the Oubache as shown by the rejection of the traditional form of the student body section and the introduction of the new group shots. The new darkroom has allowed the staff a quicker and more economical service. Also new to this year’s Oubache is free verse of the opening pages written by a student of Wabash Valley College, Jed Trapp. To keep unneccessary costs at a minimum, this year the students were asked to register if they desired the 1972 Oubache. This, too, helped to cut down expenses in order to create the big, colorful, 1972 Oubache. Making use of the new darkroom and equipment is staff photographer, Kenny Wood. 81 Student Congress President, Mark Goebel, casts his vote for Home- coming Queen. Homecoming is an event sponsored by the WVC Stu- dent Congress. These Congress members are reviewing the new Constitution of the Student Congress. In the Student Union, the County Clerk assists Pam Bass as she registers to vote. Student Congress Backs WVC Student Activities Governing the student body, promoting annual events, and co-sponsoring organizational activities are just a few of the duties of the dynamic WVC Student Congress. Its thirty mem- bers constitute the avenue of communication between the stu- dents, administration, and faculty of WVC. In order to serve in this governing body, a student must be elected by the students at the beginning of the Fall Quarter, or must be chosen by an approved campus organization as its official Representative in Congress. This year’s Student Congress has undergone many sweeping changes, due to its adoption of a completely re- vamped Constitution. Included in these changes are the re- organization of the old Student Senate into the Student Con- gress (complete with House and Senate), provisions for both faculty and administrative advisor, and establishment of a Judicial Board, composed of members of the Congress, Faculty, and Administration. The Student Congress has also secured a permanent. office upstairs in the Student Union to wert : efficiently serve the students of Wabash Valley College. 3 yi KE STUDE NT SENATE 82 Writing a ticket for Teresa Ashley for improper parking is Bob Onyett, one member of the Student Congress Parking Committee. The first major activity of the school year and the first chilly blasts of autumn weather collided on the evening of November 3. Over two hundred stu- dents gathered at the Student Union to begin the two hour trip through fields and along country roads to Conservation Lake, the site of the wiener roast. The good at- tendance foretold a prevailing at- mosphere of fun and enthusiastic participation for the entire year. Kenny Marlowe keeps his ears warm while other brave the biting cold. Michael Dinsmore, Timothy Holmes, Richard Lowry, and John Smith bring up the trail end of the wagon caravan. Vets Club Chooses Sweetheart At Their Thanksgiving Dance Thanksgiving Eve found the Wabash Valley College students at V.F.W. Post 4276 dancing away their tensions after an arduous Fall Quarter. The occasion was the First Veterans Organization Sweetheart Dance. From all the young women at the dance, the Vets chose Miss Connie Phebus to reign as their first Sweetheart for the remainder of the school year. She received a crown, a bouquet of roses, and a congrat- ulatory kiss from several eager club members. Homecoming Honors Six Beautiful Coeds 126 Students Welcome Guest Speakers To Our Campus The world was our campus, and the world came to us through the media of guest speakers. From the world of journalism, politics, and economics, they opened our eyes wider to the world we inhabit. The first speaker, Mr. Martin Gershen, pre- sented some interesting highlights from his book, Destroy or Die: The True Story of Mylai. He commanded attention dur- ing his lecture and at an informal rap session later in the day. Our next guest was U.S. Senator Charles Percy. His message to the students was a challenge to become an active part of gov- ernment. Senator Percy answered questions about the war in Vietnam, the draft, gun laws and federalized welfare. Dr. Dennis Weidenaar, Professor of Economics at Purdue Univer- sity, brought the students some pertinent information about the economic outlook in the United States. Students appre- ciated forecasts on job opportunities and some clues to the most promising career fields. Senator Percy greets students outside the Student Union after his address.
