For the first time in years, every course at Samuell was on grade level. New rules and regulations brought about some changes for the 1984 school year. One of the major changes was the attendance policy. This year, students were allowed five absences, excused or unexcused. Six days led to an automatic failure. Three tardies were considered as one absence. Passes were a must in the hall. Adding to the changes .were a new principal, Mr. Rollings, and a new Dean of Instruction, Dr. Baca The lengthening of the school day until four p.m. brought about other changes. Itallowed students to take an extra academic class, and it also provided some students with a study hall. After school meetings and practices could not begin until four-fifteen p.m. Students and faculty, tired from that extra hour, adjusted to the change in about six weeks.
