In' January of 1957, students from Pleasant Grove and Woodrow Wilson High Schools walked through the doors of the new W. W. Samuell High School. ' H Samuell was named for a well known Dallas physician, Doctor William WorthingtonSamuell. At the time of his death, December 13, 1937, he left a large amountf of land to the City Park Board. Samuell was built on asectionof this land. Q fi, Mg' John Shumaker is such a good student, he even brings his homework to the games! The space that is now the parking lot was a cotton field. There was no air conditioning at Samuell until 1970. Students moved into the new east wing of Samuell in 1965.
