SCOPE ’85 W.T. Clarke High School Westbury, N.Y. , Gary Quartararo Our yearbook, SCOPE 1985, pays hommage to a man whose name is synonomous with the word dedica- tion. We refer to his commitment and devotion to his students, his personal attention to all things in which he is involved, whether it be Spring Carni- val, Model Congress, Football, La- crosse and a number of other areas that share his energies. For his dedi- cation, our dedication to Mr. Gary Quartararo. 3 Our class is as unique and changing as the waves on the shore. From driftwood to the dunes, from clubs to the cafeteria, from beachballs to the boardwalk, from sports to Saturday nights, this is it. Us, with the wind in our hair, and the sand in our shoes. The low tide of mid-terms to the high tide of graduation. Class of 1985, a new horizon is upon us. This yearbook will help prevent the waves from washing away our memories. Our high school years stand solid as a reef in the vast ocean of our lives. In this book, we save a glimpse of our sun-filled days. We, the staff of SCOPE '85, present the beach as our theme and we hope this book will make a splash in your life! 8 9 Jorden Alliger Thomas Alvarez Roberto Anes Denis Aspenleiter Karen Annas Rene Banziger Eric Anderson Donna Baranek Francis Bassolino Stephen Baynes John Bianco Scott Bienstock Patricia Bell Barbara Besdansky William Bledsoe Dennis Bodenstein Steven Bonura Tina Blume Laura Bordini Judy Blumenberg Bernard Brenner I Timothy Bristoll Linda Bunting Valedictorian Lorraine Carmean Elaina Cavaluzzi nimium , i i Richard Carbone Anthony Caridi 16 Emily Conlon Daniel Coultoff Dawn Cerrella Robert Coaster Kathleen Connolly Walter Crevoiserat 18 20 ' V 22 23 Ellen Deck Joseph DeVincentis Allan Davis Christine Dawson Ronald Day Louise DeCanio James Darmofal Paul Davis Carol Dubin % ♦ Kevin Dux Keith Feldman Scott Eisgrau Brenda Fitzgerald Siamak Elghanian Kelly Flynn Eric Erdelyi i Sandra Frazzetta Janet Fulvio Richard Garrett Gloria Gaeta Tammy Herman Stewart Goldstein Liesl Golub Jill Grossman Cindy Greenwald Donna Hangan Michael Hirsch Christopher Holland Susan Hudson Gerald Kaufold Beth Kenney Nancy Kenny Lenore Hyman Douglas Kloos Scott Koppel Matthew Klauser Barbara Korchinski Sean Kuhnt Michael Kupillas Stephen Lambias Peter Lodise Teresa Ludwig David Lurman Raul Maia Sundara Mageshwari John Malitzis Marilou Mallabo Richard Mantovani 33 Ralph Mercaldo Kelly McCloskey Danielle McFadden Katherine McNamara Druann Mitchell Brian Meininger Jennifer Moss Kathleen McManamy James Meyer JK“ -rV y; v '■ 'X- X Pebbles on the Beach 0 0 0 v'. £■ . A new tradition was christened this year by holding our coke-tail hour in the cafeteria. Students, teachers, and parents all worked together to make this new idea a success. There were high expectations at the begin- ning of the year, but the Rams were plagued with many injuries to key players, including the starting back- field. Although the Rams couldn't chalk up a win this season, they fought hard in every game giving it their all! Coach Meehan looks for- ward to a very healthy and produc- tive season next year. 108 109 ITS MORE THAN JUST A FLICK OF THE STICK . . . After practicing to- gether everday, the team outshined itself with an abundance of caring for each other and spirit for the team. These feelings came out on the field as they went to the County Fin- als with a record of 5-2- 2. Even though the sea- son ended there, the love still continues. Egan 135 This year at Clarke the faculty uncovered their hidden talents by presenting the school with a seasonal spectacular. The show was narrated by Mr. Corsico who kept the lines of communi- cation open with Santa Claus by phone. Mr. Biolomzy and Mrs. DiPrima added to the show with a saxophone solo and spotlight songs. The faculty chorus sang joyously as the jazz ensemble accompanied them. Readings by Dr. Renken and Dr. Wallace reminded everyone of the true meaning of the holidays. Mr. Brodsky recited Twos the Night Before Christmas to a group of anxious children while Mr. Shewchuck did his imper- sonation of the terrible Mr. Scrooge. The performance came to its climax as Santa Claus, played by Mr. Solotoff, came down the chimney and into the aisles, showering the audience with candy canes. The entire atmosphere was one of spirit and jubilation shared by both the faculty and the stu- dents, making it an occasion for all to remember. WINTER WONDERLAND B. Kenney 138 L. DeConio S. The program included our awesome football team, spirited cheerleaders and our one and only fabulous Marching Band. An alumnus to Clarke H.S., Dan Fischer, was our Grand Marshall. He led the parade of floats onto the field and crowned our King Stephen Baynes, and our Queen Theresa Roland. All the floats were spectacular as shown by the difficulty the judges had deciding upon the winner. This years first place was shared by the fabulous Senior float and the equally outstand- ing Freshman float. The excitement continued through the Post-Game Reception and Dance making the day complete. Congratulations to our chairpersons, Beth Cunningham and Jennifer Moss for making Homecoming '84 THE GREATEST SHOW ON TURF! 147 Most Popular Anthony Caridi Debbie Russell Best Personality Jimmy Meyer Kathleen Connolly Danielle Russell Most Spirit Francis Bassolino Kathleen Connolly Most All-Around Anthony Caridi Kelly Flynn Most Likely to Succeed Jim Gatteau Linda Bunting Hardest Worker Allan Davis Linda Bunting Best Athlete Doug Kloos Jen Moss Most Artistic Michael Kupillas Donna D'Andrea Most Sophisticated Michael Potto Mary Anne Na- bet Most Dramatic Peter Lodise Sam Taylor Class Prep Michael Kupillas Katie McNamara Best Smile Francis Bassolino Suzanne Sibilla Best Eyes Dennis Wetter Eileen Sweeny Best Hair Sean Khunt Jill Rubalcaba Best Musician Michael Hirsch Linda Bunting A WHALE OF A TIME! When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest if you must, but don’t you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As everyone of us sometimes learns, And many a failure turns about When he might have won had he stuck it out; Don’t give up though the pace seems slow— You may succeed with another blow. Success is failure turned inside out - The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell just how close you are, It may be near when it seems so far; So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit— It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit. t, Jr Sr SERVING CARLE PLACE WESTBURY FOR OVER 30 YEARS JOHN L. Our high school years are times to remember as the brightest and most enlightning times of our lives. It seems as though we were just becoming comfortable in our friendships and now it’s time to start anew. High School friends are not people we just set aside in the back of our minds, but people who give us memories that continue to grow. We can look back on these years with a smile and realize that even though we felt the tides may have turned against us, we rescued each other from the treacherous undertows and ended up on safe ground. Those friendships will carry us through more difficult times. SPECIAL THANKS TO — Mr. Guzewicz, Mr. Ba- den, Mr. Deegan, Mrs. Reihing, Mr. Murphy, Mr. Biolomzy, Mrs. Groen, Dr. Renken, Dr. Wallace, Mr. Jaccarino, All of the Main Office Sec- retaries, To Kathleen’s cousins Sheila, Kevin and her sisters Coleen, Mau- reen, MaryAnne, and Beth EXTRA SPECIAL THANKS TO — Mr. Roy Siegel, the great man behind it all 182 T March 18, ] 985 proved to be a night-filled with excite- ment and adventure. In addition to the traditional booths, a new attraction, the Dunking Booth, turned out to be a real crowd pleaser due to the cooperation of the students and teachers alike. Thanks to Spring Carnival Chairpersons Teresa Ludwig and Susan Hudson, a sub- stantial amount of money was raised to aid the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. 183 Our story does not end with this final page. It represents a beginning. We hope this book will help to keep memories alive; the good memories of our sunny, and, some times stormy high school days as we remember our dreams and our sand castles. Now we look forward to new ports of call, and though we may tuck away this edition of SCOPE, even as our tides are changing, we can feel confident that, like all treasure, it will always be there when we need to dig up a smile or feel the reassurance of an old friend’s face. As our ships come in we will recall the confidence and security of the peaceful shores that were Clarke High School. But as we sail over unpredictable waters our horizons often become clearer. Per- haps, like those ships that pass in the night, we will meet again soon. r-mi
