Af ss Howell, with your courteous patience and understanding, you have laid the sturdy foundations of our futures as mathematicians and mature individuals. Your outstanding ability to teach and your abundant flow of generosity bring us renewed faith in the teaching profession. We thank you for your considerate take-home tests, your thoughtful one day grading system, and your clear and effective extra help. Your academic and extra-curricular contributions to W. Tresper Clarke place you leagues above us. May your dreams never be foiled and may your happiness and joy be multiplied. We will always remember you. With undivided love and gratitude, Miss Howell, we dedicate SCOPE 1983 to you, and we thank you for your dedication to us. 2 A NOTE ON OUR THEME There are rhythms that beat to every walk of life. As we adapt to different situations and develop new interests, we choose a different type of music to accompany us. One of the reasons that music is so interesting and impor- tant is its versatility. Music has an extremely wide scope. It can en- tertain us, stimulate us, relax us, broaden our horizons, help us communicate, and help us remember. The sound of music is itself a very powerful force. Music has moved countries. It has accompanied wars, celebrated victories, and mourned over losses. Music is a part of many of the important events in our lives. Birth- days, social affairs, the prom, graduation, wed- 4 dings, religious events, and other rituals of life each have a particular type of music associated with them. There is music in words, and even in nature - an original harmony. Everything we touch turns to music. We strove to produce a well-orchestrated year- book that has the same effect as a favorite old song - something that you can sit back and enjoy; something that you can remember with. A good album doesn't stay on the shelf for long. We hope that this yearbook also remains in constant use. Here are the pictures: feel free to insert your own captions and memories. Open your eyes and ears, and let the music begin. 0f4-n fegB «... ??£) - rnf y Sr f [ — rfr ff molto marc. West 103 Clarke Men’s Soccer NASSAU COUNTY The 1982 Men's Soccer team had the most suc- cessful season of any team in Clarke's history. The Rams charged through their regular season by winning every league game, scoring WO goals and yielding only 14. They stormed through the playoffs, capping them with a solid 4-0 victory over last year’s county champs. Cold Spring Har- bor, to become the Nassau County Class B Champions. The Rams went on to win the New York State Regional Championship, a feat never before achieved at Clarke. Coach Fred Graham's career was climaxed by not only coaching his first county championship team, but also being named Coach of the Year. The Rams posted an unbelievable, record-breaking season which will be remembered forever. Scope ’83 would like to congratulate the 1982 Men's Soccer team for maintaining Clarke’s reputation as a contender in not only Nassau County, but also New York State. FIELD HOCKEY Once again, the field hockey team, under the direction of Coach Joan Case, made Clarke fans proud. The team equaled its semifinal showing last year, sparked by the superb playing of co- captain Diana Friedli, who allowed only nine goals in eighteen games, and Sheryl Savino, the team’s leading scorer. In addition, co-captain Stacy Sauer was chosen to participate in a na- tional competition. Case’s babes make it happen! Kneeling: C. Zindulka, L. Russ, V. Debella. L. King, K. Snyder, J. Goaltender Grace Chianese amassed seven consecutive shu- touts on the way to the playoffs. Jackie Koppen was chosen to play on the Exceptional Senior team for Nassau County. Thanks to some very special, caring students and faculty, HOMECOMING '82 was a success. HOMECOMING was a colorful procession of ban- ners, floats, enthusiastic teams, and dignitaries. The cheers of friends and alumni as well as music from the marching band filled the air. Scope ’83 would like to congratulate the first King and Queen, Larry Jasen and Lynn Antizzo, and give a grateful ‘thank you' to advisors Stan Bialo- mizy and Marilyn Rerecich, whose unselfish ef- forts helped to make HOMECOMING '82 enjoy- able to us all. 153 SENIOR DINNER Most Popular.................Coleen Connolly, Matt Tomasino Best Personality ...............Coleen Connolly, Alfie Torrico Class Couple......................Sheryl Savino, Larry Kordon Best Looking..................Lisa Lychmanenko, Larry Jasen Most Likely to Succeed .........Kara Unterberg, Joshua Golub Best Dressed......................Betsy Allgor, Tony ladevaia Best Musician.....................Diana Friedli, John Kennedy Best Athlete .....................Stacy Sauer, Dave Voelpel Best Body ....................Lisa Lychmanenko, Tom Kozma Best Eyes..............................Wendy Frank, Ira Kramer Best Smile ....................Patty Zaleski, Shaun McQuade Best Hair...........................Katie Wood, Larry Jasen Best Legs ....................Lisa Lychmanenko, Van lacoboni Class Prep...................Eileen McNamara, Joshua Golub Class Flirt...................Denise Monuski, John Bartunek Most Talkative................Jenny Taylor, Stephen Gismondi Most Gullible.....................Janice Clark, Steven Puma Best Actor Actress .........................Andrea Oberman, Matt Tomasino Best Artist...................Jean Dessart, Young Hee Chung Best Laugh .........................Janice Clark, Tom Bodas Class Space Cadet.................Susan Potto, Bruce Simpson Most Dramatic ....................Jenny Taylor, John lannotti Class Klutz ..................Debbie Borriello, Richard Haber Class Quarter Flipper .................Donna Dorso, Bill Terry Hardest Worker..................Kara Unterberg, Joshua Golub Best Walk .......Denise Bunting, Bob Buchanan, Lenny Volpe Worst Driver......................Lori Jean Kelly, Billy Heath Class Clown ......................Sheryl Savino, Larry Kordon 155 V SPRING CARNIVAL 156 This past year was a year of suc- cess and achievement as well as one of conflict and strife. SCOPE Mr. Gerald Baden Mr. Roy Siegel Mr. Ralph Guzewicz Photography Advisor Production Advisor Business Advisor So many faces in and out of my life, Some will last, some will just be now and then. Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes- I’m afraid it’s time for goodbye again. -Billy Joel It is time for goodbye. And for many of us, this will be a particularly difficult goodbye to say, because we have become such good, close friends. For the last twelve years, we have been nurturing and nourishing our maturing friendships. We have suffered together, but we surely have had a great time together also. And now, at the end of our senior year of high school, just as the intensity of our friendships is peaking, we must say goodbye and leave each other. It’s a sad goodbye, but it must be said. So, in speaking for the entire Scope staff, I say goodbye. It’s been great. -Joshua Golub 190 1983 Editor-In-Chief: Joshua Golub Managing Editor: Meg Hilbert Photography Editor: Stacie Vanchieri Literary Editors: Liz Elle, Seth Kaller Sports Editors: Jim Cluxton, Wendy Wagner Features Editor: Andy Oishin Business Editors: Tom and John Iannotti Layout Staff Susan Janec, Zoe Fidelman, Lori Geffon, Susan Potto, Eileen McNamara, Ellen Werther, Susan Burke, Denise Davis, Terry McShane, Cecilia Chomicz, Liz Elle Photographers Stacie Vanchieri, Matt Marchesi, Kathy McCloskey, Suzanne Hunter, Chris Ryan, Jean Dessart, John Sim, Dara Minkin, Meg Hilbert, Joshua Golub, Mr. Roy Siegel, and many more . . .
