DEDICATION MRS. ELEANOR GLUCK There are not enough adequate accolades with which to comment on the teaching talents of Eleanor S. Gluck. For twenty-three years Mrs. Gluck wholeheartedly dedicated herself to the task of educating students in the joys of literature and the delights of using language correctly and effectively. In addition, she was a faculty advisor to REFLECTIONS, a participant in faculty productions, an editor or exceptional skill for the work of both faculty and students (she spotted with ease the errant phrase or comma). Further, she willingly wrote countless letters of recommendation for students applying to college and counseled them with regard to career choices. As a perfectionist, she did not suffer fools gladly but instead assisted them in acquiring knowledge with which to better their thinking, writing, and speaking. Her dangling earrings, something of a trademark, shook with pleasure as a student discovered a symbol in a literary piece. She extended to her students loving concern and delighted in their successes. Mrs. Eleanor Gluck is a Clarke treasure, a teaching legend, who will be sorely missed. We wish her much good luck and happiness as we dedicate to her this 1982 edition of SCOPE.

DEDICATION MR. JOHN LEGGETT To an excellent educator with an everpresent zest for learning and the patience required for the process to occur. You have gained “extra points’’ by helping us way above and far beyond the call of duty with extracurricular activities and by pushing us to achieve our full potential, when even we are not able to recognize what we are capable of attaining. Your unique sense of humor has marked the good times; your sensitivity and warmth has guided us through tragedy. To a past, present, and future Shepherd, we say “Thank You.” We love you, Mr. Leggett, and wish you only the best, whether you’re steering a boat out at sea or living in a quiet cabin on the coast of Maine, Your presence will always be felt. Your gift to us has been invaluable knowledge, and the pleasure of your company. This, SCOPE 1982, is our gift to you.
