SCOPE 1961 W. Tresper Clarke High School Westbury, New York We first saw Clarke early one September morning. Four years ago. Our building was two floors high And five miles long. We were lost inside, Hiding from overbearing upperclassmen. We found our homerooms. The beginning The very beginning. Program cards! How many sets were made? Program cards. Daring us to find our first period class. We knew our way around— (By May) And guidance. Guidance Thank Guidance for guidance. Orientation. A year and our feet were planted Firm on the ground (So we thought) A fascinating place. A new face. A world. Wide and terrific Sums of new interests; Theater, dance, walking. Talking, Playing, Singing, Swinging, Flirting, Searching, As much fun as work. And we loved it. 4 •OUT CARO EAST MEADCW PUBLIC SCHOOLS P‘01'— CLo 9 $('• OROP MJTHOMZtD •- M 0««CI CMAUllOI i i i y j 1 5 2 5 , i I I 1 I a I I • r i I H{ f Mo tSSRS f o- 1 i i[ iTTTlTTn -ai ■If :3- H+Wf- m! ! Practical introductions To liberal education Algebra, Spanish, Economics, literature, Cutting, detention! Freshmen Bewildered And amazed With a future to plan. Hustle-bustle Accent confusion! As Sophomores A year of firsts. First place in football First encounter with Regents First edition of Scope. The work was harder But the year seemed shorter. We were Juniors. Quite sophisticated. The Prom, Class officers, Privileges about which The Sophomores and Freshmen could not boast. High finance With magazine sales. Serious businessmen and women And serious students. Long hours of tests And dates And books And names And PSAT NMSQT SAT ICBM SPUTNIK And JUNE!! All on schedule. Serious again As Seniors. Ready to graduate To conquer the world To worry. Worry about Senior pictures and rings Applications and forms. The guidance we needed. Guidance. And more guidance. The guidance office Our home Away from home. More applications; College applications College conferences Searches for college. These serious matters Demand our attention Spring came And we lunched on a Sun-drenched patio. Or we lolled in the Confidence of a brilliant new Future. As brilliant as the sun. And now it's June Sweet June June filled June Glorious and expectant. But the last of our days here. And passing too quickly. The Prom has come And gone .. . And graduation And . . . We're frightened More than we'd care To say. We're frightened And ashamed. That we hadn't done more Or less Or studied longer. And now we must leave. To win new friends And meet new people. Never to relive our times here. We must remember Our undertakings And dreams; Our endless hours Of brilliant And studious Endeavors. A moment now of creativity— A flash of inspiration The sweet moments of success As they propelled us Toward reality Are ours now To simply say so long to— And thank you— For a past We never Can Forget. 135 ; LLo cp- 1ft J ■n y|j; ’ OjVUJ Wc Lv ' HV Viu,AL j n .to kt •K Ql y f ■' ,t' .,n r' if ’ , -o 7 1.7 .'
