I970 is fhe year of diversified groups and involved individuals, each expressing conformify and noncon- formify. The individuals give fo fheir groups in a way fhey fhink meaningful, as fhe revifalized groups fake 'l'he welcomed supporf and become working clubs in confrasf fo meefing clubs. This Equifes, fhe fenfh volume, recognizes fhe assefs of 'rhese individuals and records picforially fheir confribufions fo fhe groups of our school. To show fhe double funcfion of Dykes people, we divide fhis book info fwo parfs, Individuals and Groups. This division is unique: fhe book is foo. There is no beginning buf if has 'Iwo endings which meef in fhe cenfer. If is for fhe reader fo decide which cover is fhe beginning. The group secfion recognizes groups imporfanf fo us because of fhe dimensions 'l'hey add fo school life. Afhlefics provide a falenf ouflef for fhe parficipanf and a sense of pride for fhe specfafor. The performing arfs offer an avenue of expression fo fhe Thespian, fhe maioreffe, fhe Colf 45 and fhe band member. To recognize and encourage academic achievemenf, Dykes holds charfers in five nafional honorary or- ganizafions. Likewise, infernafional, communify, and school service clubs involve Dykes sfudenfs in civic acfion and school services as diverse as caroling fo fhe old folks and picking up frash.
