A .1 9 1 -1 2 Girls Earn Spot In District Play-offs The girls' varsity basketball team got off to a slow start in the pre-district games with only one returning starter. The lack of experience was a disadvantage to the Pioneerettes, who had done so well the previous year. When district came aroundg however, the girls had developed their skills and gained the experience to put them in district play-offs. The Pioneer- ettes ended up in a three way tie for district with the Azle Hornets and the Mansfield Tigers. The Hornets, whom the Pioneers had beaten in the first game of the play-offs, proved to be their stumbling block on the way to the top. They beat Boswell in the second half of the play-offs to knock them out of advancing further. The team, led by forwards Lisa Daughtrey and Dorothy Hamman and guard Lynda Bicknell, had a sea- son record of 20 wins and ll losses. Daughtrey was high point scorer for the year with 799 points, followed by Ham- man, who scored 633 points. Bicknell led the guards in rebounding with 244 rebounds and Daughtrey led the forwards with 191. junior Beckie Stafford proved valuable on both ends of the court. The Pioneers attempted 706 free throws, but made only 373. Although the girls mayybe changing to full-court next year and playing a whole dif- ferent ball game, they should still be a rather experienced team as they will be losing only one senior starter, and will regain two sophomores who saw plenty of court ac- tion this season. Four juniors will also be returning to the team with plenty of experience. Sports 79
