After taking their first district title in the history of the school, the Pioneer nine, who started the year with only four returning players, grabbed two games in a row from YVaxahachie to claim the bi- district crown. The superb pitching of Danny Henson and Paul Jacobs led the team to Mt. Pleasant, where they took the first of a three-game series, 12-9. The Tigers proved to be the Pioneers' stum- bling block as they took the next two gamesg I3-2 in nine innings and 4-2, to stall the Pioneers' bid for state. In district play, the team compiled a ll-3 record, with a 7-1 zone tally, with their only zone de- feat coming from Castleberry, who the Pioneers defeated in their final game 17-4 to take the west zone. The basemen defeated Diamond Hill for district in a three-game series. Consistent hitting and defensive play were the elements which contributed to the team's success. Behind the pitching of Jacobs and Henson, the team was led in hitting by Danny Pemberton, Rich Houston, Ricky Mori, with help at the plate also from Iacobs. Making all-district were Mori, Jacobs and Henson. On the all-zone roster with the three was catcher Rich Houston. ai a Boswell batter gets the best of a pitch in the Pioneers' last regular season game, as the team defeated Castleherry for zone. bl Catcher Rich Houston tags a Mt. Pleasant runner in the second game of the teams regional doubleheader.
