Sluggers Record Best of Seasons Boswell's sluggers finished second in district in the spring and compiled one of the best records a Pioneer baseball team has ever had. Several years of hard work paid off for the Pioneers as they stayed in the district race until the game be- fore the end of the season. Boswell ended up with a 15-7 record and 8-5 for dis- trict. The sluggers played with a lot of heart as they pulled out several close games for victories. Boswell competed in two tournaments and won con- solation in the Cowtown Tourney, which was the first trophy won by a baseball team at Boswell. The Pioneers' chief competition and most demand- ing opponents were the Lions from Castleberry who took the zone lead from reach of the team with 7-0 and 6-5 wins. Azle also handed the Pioneers some rough competition as they led in the last game 1-0 until the Pioneers tied them in the final innings. In overtime play the Hornets were sparked by a hit to left field which brought around the winning run and drained the Pioneers chance of victory in their last game. Close games were not uncommon as the North Side team threatened in their second meeting until the Pio- neers defeated them in extra innings after their 10-0 first outing slaughter of the Steers.
