Students Elect Ford in ock Election Eighteen-year olds claimed the right to vote in their first presidential election in 1976 and practiced party politics by holding their own election prior to national balloting. Many people said the school's mock presidential elec- tion would reflect the outcome of the nation-wide elec- tion, but fortunately, or unfortunately ftake your pickj this assumption proved false. Only a small percentage of the school enrollment turned out to cast their votes for President Ford and his Democratic opponent Jimmy Carter after debates and campaigning by party factions. The turnout re- flected the I don't care attitude so prevalent the last few years in adult society. However, those who voted, did so with enthusiasm and competition. The results of the student elections showed that the students thought Ford had a better idea -but the re- sult of the national elections proved that Boswell's pop- ular choice was misleading. This year T-shirts played a big part in the life of Boswell students. So many mornings, when getting ready for school, a T-shirt saved the day, and solved the problem of what to wear. No matter where you could go the T-shirt was in. With the constant change of clothing fads, what was once only worn underneath became a popular choice for school wear. A quick scan across the campus could reveal a flash of a great variety of T-shirts. Every kind of emblem, picture and slogan imaginable was being broadcast by T-shirts. College T-shirts were automatic tips to a student's favorite school, class T-shirts distinguished class members and some shirts even advertised favorite beverages and musical groups. Pictures of stars or heroes could be found along with some T- shirts revealing vacation spots. T-shirts were so in that some were even personalized with names, initials or even pictures of a favorite person. 50 Identity
