Future Teachers Of America The Future Teachers of America were busy this year sponsoring the district convention and officers work- shop. This came about with the election of Susan Brookshire as district President. Janice Lambert be- came district secretary after a resignation. The club sold spirit flowers during football season, donuts in the mornings before school, made love-grams at Valen- tine's Day, and collected money for Muscular Distrophy on St. Patrick's Day. Ten members went to San Antonio in February to attend the state convention. Kim Reed ran for state vice-president and James Sanders competed in the State Mr. FTA competition after receiving first on the district level. Janice Cantwell was first runner-up in the district Miss FTA competition. 128 Involvement

Future Homemakers were busy throughout the year starting it off with a fashion show and ending with a hayride in May with their brother club, F.F.A. An- other fashion show was presented in the spring with summer styles from Simplicity. The club members worked in the con- cession stands at all home football games throughout the season to raise money for projects. They took skits and favors to a nursing home for Christmas spirit and participated in the Student Council Christmas program. In April seven of the FHA'ers attended the annual state convention in Houston which climaxed the club's activities for the year. Involvement 127

Students in child development spent three days a week in class- rooms in the district schools learning to teach and observing behav- ior of early childhood and kindergarten students. In addition to their regular center schedules, they spent two full days during the year in schools helping the teachers. This was the first year for students to work in a day care center, where children of working parents are left for supervision all day. Students were transported to Hansel and Gretel Day Care Center on Jacksboro Highway for work in an actual child care program. The club sponsored a Halloween party and a Christmas party for two local day care centers from money they made from candy sales in November. The club members also made their own T-shirts. Members met for dinner at various houses during the year and topped the year off with a trip to Six Flags in the spring. 4 Involvement 129
