THE ORCHESTRA Our high school orchestra was reorganized at the beginning of the fall term with a membership of fifteen. At mid-term the membership was in- creased to twenty. The young musicians have appeared on several programs during the year under the successful direction of Mrs. Mildred Buttermore. Our orchestra is also a part of the All-City High School Orchestra, an organization directed by Captain Wilfred Wilson, which is to make several appearances in and around Fort Worth. Stripling is very proud that one of her young violinists was chosen as a member of the National High School Orchestra and Summer Camp, which is to meet in Chicago this year. She is concert master in our Orchestra-Miss Louise Trammell. Page 101

Legatus The club adopted as its name, Romanus Conventusg as its flower, rosa. The purposes of Romanus Conventus are as follows: study, pleasure, service. In fulfilling these purposes the club hopes to act as a cultural asset to its mem- bers, to foster social life, and to serve the school as a whole. Anyone who takes Latin is elegible to belong. 'lv . -' ,r THE BOYS OCTET The Octet was formed at the beginning of the fall term of 1927 under the very able di- rection of Mrs. Mildred Buttermore. The boys were selected for ability to sing parts as well as for quality of voice. Because of Mrs. Buttermore's untiring efforts a very good Octet was developed. The young singers did not win the applause of their audience without many hours of practice. The boys rehearsed before and after school besides the regular work done in the chorus class. Their singing before a number of audiences, particularly the student body. resulted in increased enthusiasm for others to take up this work. This was noticed especial- ly at the beginning of the spring term of 1928, when the enrollment was increased to eighty, this being the largest number of students ever enrolled for chorus work in the history of the school Stripling High has the only boy Octet inthe Fort Worth High Schools, and we are proud to know that Stripling leads all the other schools in this Work. We hope to see some of our boys become finished singers in time. . Many thanks are due Mrs. Buttermore, and we all hope she will be even more successful with the chorus classes to come.
