E RSKINE CALDWELL The Commerclal Club The Commercial Club was organized September 1948 under the leadership of Mr. W. C. Marshall. This club serves a twofold purpose: first to train the students of the Commercial Department to be better businessmen and womeng second, to render our service to the club, classes and individuals who are not fortunate enough to be a part of our organiza- tion. The Commercial Club aims to inspire more of our students to enter the business department, as there is a great need of business people today. 39

The New I-Iomemakers of South Carolina is a local organization of Negro girls studying Home Economics in the public schools of the State. During the school terms of 1936, '37 and '38 about one-half of the Home Economics Departments in the State organized their girls into the New Homemalcers of South Caro- lina and at which time Voorhees became a member. One of the chief objectives of the organization is to train active ancl efficient leaders among young women for home and community life. The Annual Xmas Bazaar and the Fashion Show in the spring are two of our out- standing events of the year. There are sixty members ancl the officers are as follows: 38

That is the trust to manifest good feeling and friendship not only to- ward our immediate surroundings but to all mankind. Our club consists of 26 members. Each one feels within himself that he alone has an important task to fulfill. The use as our motto Toujour Francais which means always French is important. As we know, most Frenchmen are lovers of peace and when we say Toujour Francaisv we notw only mean always French but always brotherhood.
