TO: The Members and Sponsors of The Senior High Class of 1949: You have my hearty congratulations and commenclations Tor your initiative and eH:orts in publishing a yearbook. During my more than a quarter of a century here at Voorhees,I do not recall that any class has published anything of this nature, and I have not seen any evidence of one having been published before 1922. You are the pioneers or trail-blazers in this activity at Voorhees. Hats off to you! Hard worlc and cooperation will usually bring satisfactory results in all fields of endeavor. Your experience in publishing a yearbook should be helpful in your future vocations. May your lives be dedicated to the advancement of peace, good will and the development of true democratic principles in our nation and the world. Try to remember, The World needs many men to-day Red-blooded men along life's way, With cheerful smiles and helping hands, And with the faith that understands The beauty of the simple deed Which serves anotherfr needf' EDGAR A. I wish to thank and congratulate the sponsors and the several members of the class for publishing this annual. I believe it is the first in the history of the institu- tion and certainly the first during my administration. Your efforts will make it pos- sible for those who come after you and the many graduates and former students of Voorhees to share with us the many interesting experiences of the school year 1948-1949. It is the purpose of Voorhees to be a Christian institution in the sense that its total program is motivated by Christian ideals and principles, and is directed toward the development of competent, cultured, Christian persons. The institution seeks to help each student, in the light of his individual abilities, interests and needs, to become such a person. We believe that such objectives, adequately analyzed and implemented, will have the enthusiastic approval of those who are interested in our well being and will also attract individuals who are interested in attending an institution with this pattern of purposes. It is very necessary that you keep in mind the fact that whatever you may do, and wherever you may go your ALMA MATER is judged. Therefore, give to the world the best you can give. Cordially yours, EARL H. MCCLENNEY, SR. President i6
