.gn Jlflemoriam N Faculty and students ahke were deeply shocked to hear of the death of Mtss Mary Barley m August 1952 Mlss Bailey 1 memb r of the Enghsh mathematlcs and socxal sclence departments became 1ll the prevlous sprmg and had to leave school Mlss Barley came to Von Steuben IH October of 1938 Durmg her years here she taught algebra vvorld hlstory and Enghsh ASld6 from the fine vt ork she d1d1n school Mxss Balley was kept busy at home carmg for her mvalld Von Steuben has lost a smcere frxend and an excellent teacher Our feelmg IS well expressed by Dr Ackermann vs ho said Miss Balley vv as falhng m health long before she yxelded to 1ts demands Her cheerfulness m splte of great pam her dev otlon to her students and her school as well as her tender sohcrtude for her aged father vull endear her forever to all those who had the prlvlledge of knowmq her Page 6 A beloved member of the Von Steuben faculty Mr lrvmg Cleve passed away February 20 1952 Strncken whlle at his duties ID school Mr Cleve was taken to the Swedlsh Cox enant hospltal vvhere he dled At the funeral February 23 hve members of the Von Steuben faculty were pall bearers Mr hdvvard Uber Mr Robert Radlove Mr Lester Lltzlg Mr Charles Goldstem and Mr Hamxlton Cross The sixth was Mr Paul La hann of the Board of Educatxon Mr Cleve vvas mterred IH Mount Ollve Cemetery lrvmg I Cleve attended DePaul Umverslty and ID 1920 vsas ass1gned to the publlc schools He had been at Steuben for over 20 years He taught mathematlcs and was also m charge of the bookroom All of the boys m Steuben who were ov er 18 offered to gmve blood to replemsh the supply used for Mr Cleve at the hospxtal The tvuo boys vv hose blood types were accepted were Don Eldrldge and Herbert Oberlander S113 O0 vvas collected from the d1v1s1ons and sent to La Rablda Sanxtarlum for the Heart Fund m hls memory Q ' I , , . , c 2 , . , .
