PELICAN GIRLS’ STATE . i Penny Edwards - Nita Beth Wagner Emma Minchue Being selected to attend Pelican State, held each summer on the campus of Louisiana State University, is an honor sought by every true Vivianite. Selected on the basis of char¬ acter, service, leadership and cooperation, these delegates study the government of Louisiana. They occupy the Senate and House Chambers, elect their own governor and other officers, and through actual participation gain a working knowledge of the government of their state. LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE Leadership conference is O. K. Balanced with study and work and play- H So goes the song sung by the delegates to Leadership Conference which is sponsored by Louisiana State University and held on the cam¬ pus. This conference instructs students, representing schools from all over the state, in fields of Speech, Journalism, Recreation and Library. It promotes interest in the study of mathematics, gives pupils glimpses of the future which serve as incentives to continue the study, permits study of certain interesting matters connected with mathematics which do not find a place in the regular classroom, develops an appreciation for the truth and beauty in mathematics, and dependence upon it in practical life, and in¬ spires the members with the nobler phases of the subject, thus enabling them in turn to inspire coming generations.

RADIO BROADCAST GROUPS YOUTH VIEWS THE NEWS” PROGRAMS Jack Moseley, Charlotte Speer, Emma Minchue, Don Griffin, Ronny Hall, Jan Norris, Nita Beth Wagner, and J. W. Sartor. The purpose is to give the high school stu¬ dents of Caddo Parish the opportunity to partici¬ pate on a radio panel, where they may share their opinions on matters of local, state and international character. Completely unrehearsed, these programs are held monthly at the radio station KTBS, with each school in the parish making two appearances during the school year. The Vivian High School has had two broadcast dates for the 1954-55 session—January 13 and April 7. Ronny Hall, Peggy Wilson, Gerald Holley, Penny Edwards, and Bobby Hines. Gloria O ' Donnell, Rosa Ann Josey, Larry Hobbs, Penny Edwards, A. G. Akin, and Billy Magouirk.
