It promotes interest in the study of mathematics, gives pupils glimpses of the future which serve as incentives to continue the study, permits study of certain interesting matters connected with mathematics which do not find a place in the regular classroom, develops an appreciation for the truth and beauty in mathematics, and dependence upon it in practical life, and in¬ spires the members with the nobler phases of the subject, thus enabling them in turn to inspire coming generations.

PELICAN GIRLS’ STATE . i Penny Edwards - Nita Beth Wagner Emma Minchue Being selected to attend Pelican State, held each summer on the campus of Louisiana State University, is an honor sought by every true Vivianite. Selected on the basis of char¬ acter, service, leadership and cooperation, these delegates study the government of Louisiana. They occupy the Senate and House Chambers, elect their own governor and other officers, and through actual participation gain a working knowledge of the government of their state. LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE Leadership conference is O. K. Balanced with study and work and play- H So goes the song sung by the delegates to Leadership Conference which is sponsored by Louisiana State University and held on the cam¬ pus. This conference instructs students, representing schools from all over the state, in fields of Speech, Journalism, Recreation and Library.
