D vclnpmm! of Our Salma! granted diplomas to approximately two thousand Seniors. The number of graduates has in- creased from ten members in 1919 to sixty in 1952. The largest class graduated in 1938 with 114 Seniors. In this period of marked progress probably no other individual has so made his presence felt in the school as has Mr. Mackey. While active in its material development, he has exerted an even greater influence among faculty members and student body alike through his deep sense of fair dealing. To Mr. Mackey's personal integrity and uprightness the school personnel feel, in a large measure, is its success due. That his influence has been far-reaching is shown by the many communications that have come from former students, professing their sincere ap- preciation for Mr. Mackey and the school. The long line of alumni and the ex-students, who honor and revere him, are witnesses to the loyal and constructive service Mr. Mackey has given the school and the community. With one accord they have placed him in the top category of those people whose influence upon their lives has made an indelible impression. FACULTY There have been many personalities who have helped to mold the character and worth of our school. lt is difficult to try to name all the prominent individuals who have been connected with the faculty. Of several names that stand out as having especially proiected themselves in helping to make our school what it is today we would mention Miss Helen Burr, Miss Ruby Currie, Miss Pearl Cox, Mrs. Luda Keen, Miss Margaret Calhoun, Mrs. Norvie Hart Burr and Miss Elsie Pullen. Mrs. Norvie Hart Burr, who, in 1950, became our first assistant principal, has had a singular share in molding the successful pattern of our school. With a rich background of teaching experience, Mrs. Burr, in her capacity as guidance counselor, has done a remarkable job. She has been a strong co-ordinating force in helping parents and students to solve their problems of adiustment. To teachers as well, she has served, materially, by assisting them to improve their own competence for providing guidance. Above all, Mrs. Burr has, by a genial disposition and by mild-mannered directives, brought to the student mind the true purpose and meaning of regular attendance upon school. Miss Elsie Pullen, for many years a teacher of the seventh grade in our school, remains as a shining example of the spirit of true teaching. Kindliness and consideration of the individual pupil were her outstanding traits. Her human, friendly, companionable attitude and her in- terest and understanding of her pupils marked her as genuinely democrat. To know Miss Elsie, as she was affectionately called, was to realize that she was sincerely interested in the problems, needs, and interests of all the young people with whom she came into contact. Never too busy was she but there was time for the bits of wisdom she had for her children. ln the roster of our school's great Miss Elsie Pullen will long occupy an enviable position, her memory, a long-cherished one. 4-W '. i ' '1- iiil ' .. well' 1 9 5 1. - f ' , ' P . ,,R.,i , x 6,
