Mr. Glen Grant, Principal Administration Dear Students, In our society schools must meet the ever chang- ing demands of the times. Heavy immigration, the depression and World War II presented such chal- lenges. Once it was necessary to weld the great variety of immigrant cultures into one: citizenship and social education were the needs of the day. Then instruc- tion in the wiser use of the extraordinary personal leisure caused by depression became the prime con- cern of schools. More recently, physical fitness was the overriding need during the world war and the schools had to meet that challenge, too. But with the changing tides of times come new challenges. Now that Explorers and Sputniks have appeared on the horizon, the old sense of national urgency and intemational competition reasserts itself. Science and mathematics now become the prime order of the day. But no matter what the current demands may be, the schools will continue to develop good thinking men and women - tomorrow's citizens. Sincerely, ELM, Q :Janie Vice- Principal Dear Students, 1957-58 has been a good school year at Vista High School. We have seen an increase of our enroll- ment to approximately 825 students. Six new class- rooms have been completed and construction has started on the beautiful new cafeteria. The school's program has been expanded with additional courses being offered in several areas. The caliber of scholastic work accomplished in our classes has been very high. The Class of 1958 has achieved an enviable rec- ord. They are to be especially complimented for the leadership they have provided in Student Govern- ment under the direction of Student Body Officers of this senior class. Noteworthy revisions have been made in the Student Body Constitution in order that t.here can be increased participation in a more democratic Student Body government. My congratulations to the Class of 1958 on their graduation and my best wishes for future success. Sincerely, that Principal Mr. Elmer Harritt, Vice-Principal
