Among the activities vvcre the maneuvers during the half at Football games. playing between acts of the lunior and Senior Plays. a Christmas concert in the patio. the annual Spring concert. a concert for the Elementary and Lincoln schools. a festive hand partv. and participation in the graduation exercises. The object of this organization is to provide opportunity' for an increasing number ol vvilling and musically qualified students to grow as a group. in musical excellence and in a cooperative and democratic manner. T I I , ' I 5 3 s 9 .h s I. The coliseum at Vista was the scene of many exciting contests this year, similar to the exciting Pythian games of the Greek gods. The Vista High Panthers, led by Captains Iim Mercury Peterson and Ray Thorn Omori, had a very good season. The Panthers began the football season very strongly. They showed their strength both offensively and defensively in their first games. In the first two games they scored thirty-one points while holding theirppponents scoreless. VISTA--25 A. 8e N. ACADEMY-0 The opening game found the Panthers playing Army and Navy Academy on the home field. Many of the boys showed great promise and next year's team should be one of the best in the League. Starting slowly the team picked up with every game as Roger Hansow and Clair Lair began to hit on their long shots. After losing many close games because of several reasons, the team began to win as the teamwork and individual play improved. The starting outfield consisted of jim Pctcrson, Bob Smith, and Charles Mull. Ed Myers also filled in while not on the mound. Vista's pitching department was led by Ed Myers, and backed up by jim Peter- son, Iim Chappel, and Billy Chung. The highlight of the season was on April 24, when the Panthers traveled to San Diego's Lane Field to participate in the Annual South versus North Baseball Carnival, in which Vista played 3 innings against Mar Vista. Also on April 30, Vista traveled to Oceanside and posted a 2 to l victory with Big Ed Myers pitching a beautiful 4 hit ball game.
