Drafting Class Show Ulf Their kills Visitation School provides a well-rounded two year course in drafting, the language of our Industrial Detroit. During the first two semesters the young draftsmen are given the guidance and educational values of mechan- ical Drawing and they learn to express their own ideashby means of conventional symbols. In the first year individual differences are discovered and opportu- nities given for advancement in sketching, instrument lobs, lettering, reading of the slide rule, and skills in the use of materials and instruments as the students progress with the working drawings. Even former students who do not become mechanical draftsmen often return to tell us that the skills, habits, and abilities mastered at school have been transferable and useful in their own occupations. The self discipline that co-mes through the concentration of mind and hand to do a creditable piece of work in a specific time is of lasting value long after the draftsmen leave Visitation High School. Many boys develop a sense of appreciation for the work of the draftsmen in the first year and wish to continue in the field. The subiect of Pattern Develop- ment, Pictorial, Machine, and Architectural Drawing are offered to them in the third and fourth semesters. The boys soon learn that emphasis is placed on quality and thorough understanding rather than upon the quantity of work finished. Pictured here are The Senior boys in the Drafting class. At the lower left, Dale Scott and Leonard Rosiewicz are- comparing basic models, above them are David Moore, Lawerence Korzecke and John Burke, showing the application of des i g n to architecture.
