For those who are uncertain of Union's history and growth, a visit to Dr. Elli- son's office will prove rewarding. He is showered with tokens of appreci- ation for his unending generosity and interest in people. Several Universities have buildings named for him. A hospi- tal in Africa also bears his name. The author of numerous books, and an One of Union's greatest assets is unde- niably Dr. John Malcus Ellison. His contributions to this University as well as to other religious and educational institutions the world over, impels us to stand in awe. As a young man, Dr. Ellison overcame many difficulties in his attempts to be admitted to Union. Once admitted, he found himself struggling successfully and performing above average at a University that had almost turned him away. Years later, he served as the first black president of Virginia Union, a term that lasted fourteen years. During this time, Dr. Ellison's progressive innova- tions were numerous as he competently prepared for a future of which we are now a part. Dr. Ellison currently serves as chancel- lor and has his office on the first floor of the building that bears his name. An incredibly erudite man, Dr. Ellison has an eloquent voice and charming mannerisms which captivate an audi- encefs attention. The students and fac- ulty alike venerate and seek the advice of this considerate friend and adviser who is never too busy to listen. A visit to his office, whether it be to talk to him or discuss weighty prob- lems, will result in the warmest conver- sation one can encounter, as well as the added opportunity to absorb some of the abundance of knowledge and wis- dom this man has to share. A friend to all students Dr. Ellison enriches our lives with a feeling of love and understanding. Y ff . ig - ' 911-9.X. 41 ,1 -T ara' N 1-fin t f 4 sa .
