In Tree: Renee Ad8l11S, Mattie Bowe- The Virginia State College Pershing Angels Sorority was first organized in the Spring of 1971 under the guidance of Captain Daryl Broussard. A group of 34 young ladies, eager to join a refreshing new sorority worked diligently and sacrific- ed long hours of precious time to pledge Pershing Angels. These young ladies were drawn together under a common bond and strived for sisterhood. The Pershing Angel Sorority received its trademark name from a General in World War I, General John J. Pershing. The sorority colors are royal blue and white. The sorority flower is the white rose. We have brothers and sisters on college campuses throughout the United States. Sisters and brothers with whom we are affiliated are Morgan State, Norfolk State, ASLT, and Hampton Institute. The Drill Team which comprises only a portion of the PIA sisters has performed in various parades and in drill com- petition throughout the Eastern Coast. Its purpose is to provide a fraternal organization and additional training for those students in- terested in Military Science and to provide a high standard of military precision and efficiency for the R.O.T.C. A par- ticular specialty of Pershing Rifles is precision and trick drill. Such activities are conducted on the campus and it meets with other colleges and universities. Basic cadets in good standing in the R.O.T.C. who meet the requirements of the local organization are eligible for membership on a competitive basis. 106 aw
