Phi Beta Sigma K, ff' Sam Graham, Stephen Banian, Benjamin Singleton, Stedman Payne. A. Langston Taylor, Leonard Morse, and Charles I. Brown had the initiative and imagination to construct and form a great organization founded January 9, 1914. Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity is founded on the principle of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service. After being in existence for only sixty years, Phi Beta Sigma has chapters all over North America, in Europe, and in Africa. Included in the National Program are Bigger and Better Business, Education and Social Action which exemplify the fraternity motto: Culture for Service and Service for Humanity. Vital to every Sigma is the concept of struggle for growth to achievement in an atmosphere of camaraderie.

Eta Chapter was established at Virginia State College in 1970. There are important aspects that the organization is aware of constantly. Two such aspects that the men of Iota Phi Theta stress are: Unity among the Brothers, and a consideration for those who are less fortunate. There have been Iota sponsored recreation programs established at the Harding Street Recreation Center in Petersburg, Virginia, so that the young children may participate in recreational activities.
