The lntermont girl faced a social change and had an opportunity to develop lasting friendships through social events on campus. Fall Frolics held in October featured a concert with the Jerneymen, a favorite folk-singing group from East Tennessee State. There was also a Hmixeri' with The Escorts performing. Thanksgiving gave an opportunity to show a genuine spirit of giving. The girls of each dormitory hall collected food for that hall's basket, which was presented in Z1 special Thanksgiving Chapel Service and later distributed personally to needy families. The Christmas Formal, held at the Martha Wash- ington Inn on December 10, was sponsored by the Sophomore Class. The Childrenis Christmas Party brought happiness to one hundred and fifty-children and as many lntermont girls. Christmas caroling and club parties set the mood for the true spirit of the holidays which began December 15. The Freshman Class successfully took its turn at entertainment in February with the Sweetheart Dance. Publications Weekend remains a cherished memory. The dance held in April began the rush of events leading to final exercises. l Experienced Spiritual Prohin . . . College as a way of life presented as always a spir- itual challenge to this year's lntermont girl. For perhaps the first time in her life, she questioned W ,. iii Ai' , -Wgysfr The busiest cash register in Bristol must be that of V.l.'s book store. So this is Interment? the teachings of her youth. She sought to understand the ultimate meaning of life. At Virginia Intermont she was exposed to valuable opportunities to channel her questioning. Denominational groups, chapel serv- ices and seminars, dormitory devotions, courses in religion and philosophy, and relations with Bristol churches and with church parents provided outlets to meet this spiritual challenge. Regression personified. Maintain your cool, girls.
