NOFFSINCER President of the College hirty-two years ago this spring, your President set foot for the first time on the Intermont Campus. These years have seen many changes. The institution has grown from its modest beginnings to a position of leadership in the national family of Junior Colleges. Her graduates have gone to the four corners of the globe. Her students now come from many parts of our nation and from foreign countries. The size of the present student body is limited to the capacity of the school. There were fully a hundred who applied last summer too late to secure rooms. It can be easily seen that this condition means a carefully chosen student body. That is one reason for the success of the present session. What of the future? As you Seniors go from her halls, you are interested in the success of your Alma Mater. You love each brick and clinging vine.” You can be counted upon to uphold the repu- tation of the school you love so dearly. Those who remain behind to carry on will strive to maintain and even raise the standards, to strengthen the financial condition, to cherish the ideals, and lift to a higher plane the spiritual atmos- phere of the College. Students of session 1943-44, we here express our gratitude to a Benevolent Heavenly Father for His watch over you during your stay in Intermont. He has led us, one and all, along pleasant paths and through green pastures. As you go out to face the larger responsibilities of life, our best wishes and prayers shall follow you. Assisting Pat was brown-eyed Connie Merrill, who was rightly named secretary of our class, with tall, slender Joan Lawler, the gal with the dramatic ability, as vice-president. Striking black haired Charlotte Black deserves credit as treasurer of our class and also as the New York Times representative. It’s unanimous that we toss the proverbial bouquet to our class sponsor, Miss Carter, for her untiring efforts and helpful ideas. Ah! The Juniors have athletic ability. To the girls of good sportsmanship and athletic prow- ess, we give a rousing cheer to All-American Sis” Van Dyke, who captained the victorious Jun- ior team, Carol Raynor, Pat Cherry, Betty Hughes, Ann Groner, ”B. J.” Grose and Ellen Bane Williams who was also manager of the Varsity team. So Proudly We Hail” Bonnie Norman, whose intellectual fire will never burn out; Bonnie had an active interest in the Y. W. A. also. Basketballing, piano-playing, Fran Sutherberry can easily boast of duties well performed and days well spent. Ladies of cheer, arrouse our pep and good spirit! The walls of the gym re-echo many praises to Ginny Lueddeke, Fran Smothers, Bebe Stokes and Darlene Strong for leading the green and white to victory! Intermont has its Eleanor Holms — with Ethel Laughlin gracefully churning the waters, and Jane Talley, the blonde version, who was assistant swimming instructor. Ann Lucius, everybody’s favorite, handled the song contest with her usual ease and skill. Artists and Models” . . . the artists of the class and wielders of those crafty paint brushes” are none other than Myra Hamilton and Jo Alexander; the girls who are pretty enough to be the models” are Lou Burrell, Anne Chandler, Lorraine La Tourette, Nikki Stansbury, Lola LeGette and Carolyn Van Ness. Leaning up against the stable gate are the two horse-lovers we know as Chris Economos and Bobbie” Wolfer. Leaps ’n’ bounds, cheers and whistling, friendliness and tireless energy, mixed together give us, athletic, B. J.” Grose. Watch those reprimands! Tolerant Kaky” Hoge, Priscilla Jordan, Beazy” Cohn and Liz” Barnes were Student Government electees this year, with reliable Marguerite Geet” Hall as Secretary. Melodious Edith Walker and her accordian made soothing music for our ears, while vo- cally, wee Midge” Maguire contributed some fancy notes. In the world of footlights and grease paint, the symbol of the mask and wig proudly pre- sents Trudy Tuzik, Jean Redmond, Martee Humphreys, Elaine Williams, and Marianne Hay- worth as the rivals of Sarah Bernhardt. A versatile gal and leader has been Janet Jackson, a champion swimmer, member of the Varsity Team, Junior Editor of the Annual, and a great girl! To the Juniors, let us always remember that Education is the best defense of Democracy.” Finally, the staff wishes to recognize its Junior Editor, Janet Jackson, whose cooperation and intriguing personality have made her an outstanding leader. Her admirable character, and spec- tacular sports participation have greatly enhanced her class’s On to Victory” slogan. ■L ' 1 1 ' 1 Jg, 1 i a t h Officers o High Schoo HIGH SCHOOL OFFICERS Valentina Sobalvarro Ada Brewer Frances Massey Virginia Atkins Dot Jarvis Barbara Weir Norma Jean Davis Yvonne Beer SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Nancy Kertz Joanne McCord . Two highlights of this organization’s many activities have been Vocational Guidance Week under the direction of Mr. Curtis Gentry of Knoxville, Tenn., and Religious Emphasis Week, conducted by Dr. J.
