9 V School Board STANDING Left to Right G H Ku-nplmg Superintendent Lee Edwards Jr , Alfred Harrison, Walter Murphy Bill Dodds SITTING Carl Peterson Secretary Kathleen Snow Harry Devlin, President Phyllis Anderson Office Secretary Our local school board is the symbol and reality of local authority in our school administra tion and school policy The school board keeps Virginia citizens well informed on its standards and decisions Thus it gives parents and citizens a chance to express their approval, concern or disapproval The school board is composed of seven members elected from various parts of our school district It is their duty to decide important questions that might come up concerning students faculty, parents, and citizens of Virginia They must decide how to appropriate money for he upkeep of school buildings, for books and other school supplies, for salaries, for electricity, water heat, and telephone bills for equipment for various activities and organizations in the school for lunchc s, and numerous other necessary expenditures To execute these duties, our school board members put in many hours of work. lt is often difficult to decide which decision is best for the school To come to wise conclusions, the school board members must be familiar with our laws as well as the needs of the school. lt is not an easy job to be a good school board member, and they deserve credit for their efforts in making Virginia School a better one,
