Fortunately, I was able to secure reservat1ons for the flxght, and soon we were zooming through the outer space under the skxllful guldance of our pxlot, B1ll Petefxsh, who just last year recewed a medal for completxng a quadnlhon m1les of flzght wxthout an acc1dent Sue Armstrong, a for er classmate, and the f1rst woman Jet pllot to break the sound barner, was also a passenger on the plane We had a pleasant chat about our classmates of V1rg1n1a I-hgh I stepped off the luxury lmer f1ve hours later and entered the brxghtly l1ghted and commodlous statlon, luxunous ly appolnted and complete wxth every convemence Thxnklng that a cup of coffee would set me up for the arduous task of talk1ng wzth the dzsgruntled employees of our company, I sat down at a table and whxle waltmg for my coffee, I pxcked up the latest edltxon of the Moon Weekly and learned that Mrs Dwlght Kmg Phyllls Noe and Mrs Erland Le1nberger Alxce Haywood , were Jornxng the1r husbands at the Planet Naval Base on the moon At that moment I heard my name called and looked up to see the former Rosella Anderson commg across the foyer of the stat1on Rosella, whose husband, Fred, 15 now owner of the Super Transplanet Air Lmes, had seen rn name 1n the reg1ster of lncomxng passengers and had hurrxed to look me up That even1ng I spent some pleasant hours w1th the famous cattleman, Ronnxe H1bbard, at h1s mterestmng ranch where I toured hxs extens1ve farms, swarmmg, It seemed to me, w1th polled shorthorns Ronn1e saxd that he and h1s secretary, Jo Ann Cox, had recently attended the superson1c VISION debut of John Shaner and hrs famed accordzon I also had the pleasure of meetxng J1.m Smxth, All Amer1can of 2000 A D , and h1s nurse, Donna Rossi., who had just returned from a trxp around the umverse On one of thexr stops they had attended the 'Super Grand Ole Opr , featurxng Jun Carey, who has all the teen agers swoonmg over h1s croonmg and gu1tar playmg Allen Frankis latest contr1but1on to the culture of the outer space 15 a huge lxbrary, whzch IS attractmg space men from all the planets Thxs hbrary, the largest 1n h1story, contams octxlhon books Ethel Peterson, well known clothes deszgner, has desrgned new helmets and umforms for the Planetarzan Army, I was pleased to be 1nv1ted by the Fred Crawfords to attend the prem1ere of the Z1egfeld's Moon Follxes starrmg the Moonbeam Dancers I was enchanted by the dancmg of th1s group wh1ch rncluded a number of my former class mates Mary Ellen Lang, Clara Norr1s, Anna Kluckman, Robert Collms, Earl Norr1s, and Cl1fford McClure Later backstage, we met them and thezr manager, Lyle Anderson Between sessxons of my conference wxth the employees of the Starcraft Company I looked over the bus1ness dxs trxct and, to my delxght, met Denny Young, who runs a cham of grocery stores over the ent1re unxverse I-hs assxst ant manager on the moon 15 Miss Beverly Martm It was my pleasure also to v1s1t the stud1o of the famous sculptor, Jack Klng, but we mlssed lum as he was re sxdmg at hxs summer home on Venus where he was fuushxng a statue of Sylvxa Shortndge Later I met h1m on a short busmess trip to Venus On that plane our attractxve hostess, who dxd much for our comfort durmg the flxght, was Shzrley Crawford She told me that she was enjoyxng her flxghts between Earth, Moon, and Venus As I glanced casually around, I recognzzed a young lady busy wxth reports as we flew smoothly through the a1r It was Bern1ce Boyd, secretary for the Umversal March of Tunes Her Job of vxsxtxng the planets to collect the money was xnterestxng she saxd Ray Murphy and Tom Damotte, who are garnmg a reputatxon as znventors, are res1dents of Venus and are plan nmg to put a new dev1ce on the market that wxll enable one to dlrect a plane from planet to planet by pushxng a button ln h1s offzce We called at thezr OiflC8 but they were not ln In the confusion of present day cond1t1ons It was gratzfyzng to f1nd that efforts were be1ng made to brmg about amicable settlements of the dxsagreements between the planets In Venus we v1s1ted Unxverse Headquarters and were greeted by Slnrley Conner, who IS secretary for the top men of the organxzatxon We were interested nn vlsxtxng a new subdxvislon The collaps1ble houses, des1gned for speedy evacuatmn ln case of axr raids are bunlt by Mrs Donald Needham Margaret Mondon and her husband Returnmg to the w1ll have a defmite use in radar We were happy to meet Mary Margaret Bnggs, who was on location LII Venus for a PlCtl11'C, whmch has all the makings of a supenor production We were fortunate in seezng an unusual basketball performance Dunng our stay the team composed of the f1ve sons of Mr and Mrs Nick Velten QDonna Petefxshl, known for nts fame as the unbeatable Velten Basketball Team, played an equally famous team from Venus Needless to say, the Veltens retamed thexr reputatxon as the best My stay in outer space came to an end all too soon, and soon I was winging my way back to my work a But when that day comes, being sixteen turns out to be the opposite of all that she dreamed. Susan has done too well in coaching Lucy Macon who has never had a boy friend or been to a dance. Under Susan's guidance, Lucy becomes much too popular and soon she has ac- quired Susan's boy friend. Susan's very modern mother and father have their troubles too. One grave mistake they make is in criticizing the manners, the dress, and the dancing of their children, who in turn show up their parents for what they were twenty years ago. Fehlhaber, Secretaryg J. Terwilliger, President: M. McGehee Treasurer: Miss Bohbrink, Sponsor. SITTING: S. Terwilliger, A. Haywood, R. Shields, D. Rossi, R. Anderson. The Pep Club is an organization to promote organized yelling. This is the first year we have had an organized Pep Club in our school and it has worked very successfully. The Pep Club has charge of the coat check for half of the home basketball games this year. They also have a dance after each Friday night home ball games. There are forty-one members in this organization led by the cheerleaders. The officers are: Judy Terwilliger, Presidentg Marcia McGehee, Vice-Presidentp Jeanne Fehlhaber, Secretary-Treasurer. Miss Bohbrink was the Pep Club's advisor. Hot Lunch Program Our school is one of the few fortu- nate ones to have a hot lunch program. The cooks are: Mrs. Raymond Griffen, head cook, and her assist- ants, Mrs. Dorothy Huston, Mrs. Pearl Milstead, and Mrs. Thelma Briggs. Every school day these people work hard in order to have our hot lunch prepared by the noon hour. Ap- proximately 400 students from the first grade through the Senior Class eat in the lunchroom each day. On Wednesday, November 2.4, 1954, a total oi 425 students gathered in the lunchroom for the Thanksgiving din- ner. This meal was also enjoyed by our school board members. The minirnum amount spent for food per month, to date, is Sl, 891. 30 in October, 1954. The largest sum was SZ, 280. O8 for November, 1954. ln return for the meals, each student eating, gives 2.5 cents per day or 51.25 per week, depending on the number of days in that particular week. These cooks are striving to main- tain the quality and quantity of the meals in the face of continuously rising food and labor prices at a minimum cost to the student. We marvel at the- ability of these people who are responsible for serving so much, so nicely, and for so little. UE et J .
