Seniors, our graduation year of 1985 is upon us It's a year to remember for the rest of our lives The years we've spent to- gether have been very reward- ing to all We've grown up to- gether as one large family, watching each other grow a lit- tle each year The valuable friendships that have been made will be with us forever the friends that were there through the good and the bad times We're a class to be proud of! Remember Keep your heads up high, because we're the class of 1985 Will you remember: Who won the '84 Homecom- ing game? Who our foreign exchange students were? The theme of the Turnabout dance? Mr. Beulke? The wonderful ROHIAN staff? How cute Mrs. Krause was? If you can't, just page through your 84- 85 Rohian and start remembering the good ol' days. WORKING HARD OR HARDLY WORKING? 9 d O n O — co 1984 Homecoming was an enjoyable week for all. Prob- ably the most exciting event of the week was the float com- petition between the sopho- more, junior, and senior classes. The event ended with the ju- nior class of '86 coming in first place with the winning slogan Hammer the Bears! Other events of the week were Izzy Dizzy, Egg Toss, Tug-O-War, and a Smear Tournament that went on all week. The most an- ticipated part of Homecoming was the Coronation Assembly. Maria Manion and Scott Feroni were crowned Homecoming Queen and King. The fun-filled week came to an end when the Virginia Blue Devils were defeated in football by the Eveleth Golden Bears. The game was not a total loss, however, thanks to the Virginia Marching Blues and their spec- tacular award-winning half- time show. Each meet consists of three events: two individual rounds and a team round in which all the members complete one test. The problems on many of the tests are so hard they would put many algebra teachers' test questions to shame. Coming up with even half of the cor- rect answers on a test is in itself quite a feat, so just imagine taking three math tests in one day!! Way to go Math Lea- guers!!! AT OUR BEST 31 Under the direction of Mr. Dallas Frandsen, this years Acappela Choir had another excellent year. These four fine officers: President Joe Eskola; Vice President, Tim Anderson; Treasurer, Maria Manion, and Secretary, Heidi Gerchman also helped in the choirs success. The Acappela put in many long hours of work which was obvious to the people who were fortunate enough to see this outstanding choir perform. Through the annual fruit and candy sales the choir raised enough money for the annual spring tour which was also a great success. Congradulations Acappela on another successful year!! Knoll Much of the success that happened at Roosevelt High had to do with some very special people — our teachers. The teachers of 1984-1985 added a lot of style, class, and pizzaz to our school life. They were always there to guide and help sutdents enrich their knowledge. They were not only teachers but also friends, advisors, and coaches for our ex- tra-curricular sports. Many teachers put in long hours of hard work which were well appreciated. Thanks teachers for a fine job!! This really means extra tests, so who's smiling now I Mr Beulke in one of his better moods! Mr. Munig has spent many years as one of the Senior So- cial Studies Teachers. He also teaches Psychology and is the Sen- ior Class Advisor. Mr. Munig likes to refer to himself as Ol' George While growing up, Ol' George was never tired and was never hungry. He has a thing for President Reagan, pointers, and punching students in the arm. He never lets us forget that us gosh darn kids will be paying off the deficit for the rest of our lives. We would like to thank Mr. Munig for all of the help and support that he has given us. You are one-heck-of- a great guy, Mr. Munig. THANK YOU!!! Good luck with your future years at VHS. 91 AUTOGRAPHS AUTOGRAPHS p H Y S I C A L The VHS girls volleyball team had a successful and energetic season this year The young team, made up of six sophomores, three juniors and one senior, lead by the two junior captains Mary Marcella and Leah Bodas. went on to have a great record of 19-2.They were victorious in beating their arch ri- val. the Hibbing Blue Jackets, in three matches this year. This past summer the seven senior cheerleaders attended the Universal Cheerleading Asso- ciation Camp and triumphed with the title of camp champions. As for the school year, the cheerleaders split up into a hock- ey squad and a boys basketball squad. Also, a B-squad was made up of seven sophomores. During the year the cheer- leaders participated in a variety of competitions and came out on top each time. Congratulations on a good year, cheerleaders! 1. They have suc- ceeded in keeping the traditional Duck plus leav- ing pool records all over the Northland. Captains Dean Nivala. John Diwishek. and Arjan Strijker. along with the other seniors have set a pace for the youn- ger swimmers to follow. A pace that includes the urge to conquer the long practices — everyday and rise to the top in dual meets and invitationals. They also set a mood which is a characteristic of all Virginia swim teams with Medusa days , the Tas- manian Devil and nicknames such as Disco . Dewy . Dutch , and Slime Because of these outstanding young men and the team spirit that they leave, the team will be able to live through yet another annual shave-down for Regions and come out shining for State. The team is quite young so next year's season should prove to be an awesome season too. Congratulations swimmers for a fine season!!!!! SKATE TO SUCCESS The VHS Blue Devil hockey season had its ups and downs Except for the awesome senior goaltending of Glenn 'New Wave Moore. The second half of the Devil's season should be a good one due to the hot shot seniors: Greg Aslakson. Captain Darren Maturi. Captain Rick Paoletti. Tim Anderson. Tom Berglund. and Co-Captain Scott Robinson Their coach. Terry Cullen, recruited a B team sophomore. The girls were superbly coached by Jackie Witty and the new assistant coach from Eveleth, Mrs. Carol Josephson. The typing was handled by copy editors Denise Berger and Toni Belpedio, Money matters were handled by Cheryl Lehman and a super job was done by Ad Manager Steve Preckel. Editors Barb and Linda enjoy working together on the Senior Pages. This picture actually shows that they did something other than sitting behind a desk.
