Staff Honors Superintendent Much of the growth of the Bristol Virginia School System is a result of the outstanding leadership of Dr. Joseph B. Van Pelt. Because of his excellent work, his service in educational organizations and in civic and religious activities, he has upgraded the quality of education and inspired the lives of coimtless students in Bristol during the past twenty-four years. He received his B.A. degree from Randolph- Macon College, M.A. from the University of Vir- ginia and in 1962 Randolph-Macon bestowed upon him his Doctorate. Dr. Van Pelt has been both teacher and prin- cipal. He has served education through leadership positions in the State-V.E.A. and National-N.E.A. professional organizations. His office is open always to advise or help those seeking professional guid- ance. SUPERINTEN ' DFA ' T OE SCHOOLS Dr. Joseph B. N ' anPelt The School Board for the Bristol, Virginia School System consists of five members. These members are qualified, responsible citizens who are approved by the Citv Council and State of Virginia. The Superintendent is chosen by vote of the School Board members. The main duties of the board include adopting policies for the school system, devising and providing means of executing policies and seeing that they are carried out.
