Miss Elizabeth H. Messick, Profes- sor and Head of The School of Occupational Therapy, served this year on the Defense Advisory Comnnission on women in the ser- vice. This Board, organized by President Eisenhower, had its mem- bers appointed by Secretary of Defense Wilson. The School is in- deed proud of Miss Messick for having achieved this honor. Under her direction, The School of Occu- pational Therapy strives to present its meaning and purpose to those students who enter the department. The Occupa- tional Therapist must know how the human body functions in order that he may treat the patient according to the doctor ' s request. The School of Occupational Therapy gives the student the necessary training he must have to carry out these duties. School of Social Work - Graduate The Graduate School of Social Work has the distinction of being the oldest school of its kind in the South and the first school estab- lished at RPI, beginning on an undergraduate level. It offers a program of education designed to meet the requirements for a career in social work. Field work gives the student an opportunity to de- velop techniques and skills in the handling of individual and group social problems in private, public, and social agencies. School of Rehabilitation -Graduate The School of Rehabilitation offers a program which gives the pros- pective rehabilitation counselor aid in developing skills and knowledge necessary for effective rehabilita- tion counseling and placement of the handicapped person.
