We wandered through the halls, fingers crossed, eyes wide open, mouths agape. Why, we were in college! We elected officers in a hurr - . . . we wanted to get organized. So we put Ray Doggett in the pilot ' s seat; Ellen Brinser was co-pilot; Gladys Watson was navigator, and Jesse Addison took up the collection. Mary Jane Dole guided us through the low ceiling to the clear. That ceiling was rough . . . Duck Week! That pledge, the pillowcase, no make-up . . . and we wanted to be college material! Well, we soon showed our mettle . . . we ga e a big May Day dance that left the school agog until graduation. We showed ' cm that we could do other things besides play hearts. Then wc were Sophomores . . . and R. P. I. grew up. v in 1946 R. P. 1. acquired three new habits . . . the ' . P. 1. K.xiension; . Iid- ' inters were inaugurated, and Ml ' lX suddenly appeared . . . hundreds of them ! Wc took a good luck at them and went into a huddle. Then we looked again . . . and decided to eliminate Duck Week. .Xfter all, these Freshmen were older than we were, and they ' d already been through more than enough. So we went into another huddle and elected (Gladys Watson captain of the team with Josephine Miller as co-captain. We made Jacqueline (iaines official scorekeeper while .Martha Williams passed the hat. Dr. Howard Da is coached us through our second year at R. P. 1. Then wc were Juniors. We were rounding the back stretch on the wa - toward that degree. Dr. 11. 13avis took over the reins again, while Nancy Taylor applied the whip vigorously. Reid Limerick supplied extra whips, and Jacqueline Gaines kept note of the betting. Lola Mae Shiflett searched us out for the green stuflF. Li IVLiy we extended courteous invitations to our Seniors, and escorted them to the Junior-Senior Banqiiei. We were ha -ing a grand time! September of 194S dawned, and one day we realized we were king pins in the school . . . we were measured for caps and gowns. We were here at last . . . the Senior Class. We took a deep breath and elected William Jordan to knock down the pins. Jacqueline Gaines set ' em up in the other alle -, while Bett}- .Ann Farmer kept score. Xanc ' Kaesshaeffer presided over the check book. Cheering from the sidelines was our faithful advisor, Dr. Davis. We had a big final } ' ear. We watched the inauguration of the party and precinct systems for the S. G. A. We enjoyed an extended Thanksgiving holiday experiment. We saw the Young Independent ' oters ' Club get off to a good start. And we were guests at the Junior-Senior Banquet! Now we are approaching the day when we will be handed that degree for which we have struggled, worked and prayed. It ' s been hard at ti?nes . . . fun at times . . . but we ' ll alwa s remember it. %••• ♦ THE SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS John William Jordon •. The Student Government meets weekly to discuss matters concerning the students, the constitutions of campus organizations, matters affecting college life, and the school ' s social activities. As the voice of the student body it is a unifying and centralizing agency which can take any action necessary to improve and govern undergraduate life. One of the outstanding achievements of the present Student Government was the preparation of the new constitutions. Every effort was made to allow for the growth of the student activities. School spirit was one of its main objectives, and they went far toward reaching this goal. The link between the students and the administration was strengthened by the untiring efforts of the following: OFFICERS Bill Sewell Acting President Lola Mae Shiflet I ' ice President Kathekine Shane Secretary Bill Hamilton Treasurer 4 66 „♦   •_♦ • •-• • • • • •♦•♦«♦•♦• Honor Council ' I ' hc Honor Council is composed of the jircsidcnt, vice president and secretary of live Student Council plus one representative from the men ' s dormitory, one from irgmia Polytechnic Institute Extension, and two from the dormitories. It is the duty of the Honor Council to try persons that are guilty of an infraction ot the Honor Code, which is interpreted as an offense such as lying, cheating or stealing. 4 07 t- [ . .♦. . - - -♦•♦ ' ♦♦ A Francks Calbertii Business Manager Dr. Mak .aki, r John Sponsor Anne McCalu ' m Edilor-in-Chief t949 The Staff gave a sigh of rehef, and the students echoed it.
